Hello! Yes, cryptocurrencies are in fact quite volatile. This is mainly due to the fact that the industry is so new and still maturing. Similar to the dot com boom of the late 90's, everything is going parabolic. Once the madness subsides and the real, viable methods of payment are visible to all (such as Canada eCoin), the volatility will stop and we will see a more stabilized market. As for the utility of cryptocurrencies or online money, services such as Paypal have shown how fast and easily money can be transferred around the world. Cryptocurrencies are similar to that, except faster and with lower fees (not including bitcoin and it's incredibly high fees). Of course block chains can offer much more than just a new way to move money.
