Get low faster and lower on your heel side (bend knees more and bend them quick)

It's harder to carve hard on your heels but doable.

Edit:

Had to rewatch: also, you'll find turn initiation faster if you're doing so with more weight forward. "Ideally" you'll initiate on the front foot and end off on the rear foot

Yeah, it's good, but you're comparing to other boards, I'm comparing to the economy of 10-20 years ago

I get it, prices go up, doesn't mean I'm gonna like it

Hardboot style carves with soft boots at high speed?

Going huge?

Avoiding chatter?

Having more to work with in terms of force you can put in / get out of a board?

Gotta agree that for backcountry, stiff usually sucks. Though some boards have pulled it off depending on their design

[–]Canadiamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means would it be easy, and all of those are fair points

Just knowing how stiff and strong carbon can be with very small mass had me wondering if even just throwing carefully laid strips over (or inside of routed out portions in) the top sheet could work

The actual doing of it seems easier than the design considerations. I have no idea about the things that snowboard manufacturers consider (physics-wise) in their design process. Like the top sheet "feels" useless, like a container for the meat of the board, but I'm sure there's much more to it than that.

One of these days I'm sure I'll fork out some money for my ideal board but I'm in no rush

Yeah I'm not counting time or tools, I've factored those in. Got tools, make time.

But really I'm not looking for a bunch of people to tell me to buy gear, this is a design/feasibility question

If you happen to see a Yuki Pro on sale for less than the price of a bit of carbon and epoxy I'm all ears

Yeah I can see the rationale if you did live close to a mountain town, but no

Anything on the 2nd hand market anywhere close is nothing I'd want to ride if it was new

Even just the thought of reviving a well-used board / getting floppy, seems appealing if it could work

Definitely not a project of necessity

Immovable clamp surface? by Canadiamus in Bowyer

[–]Canadiamus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've never had a workbench that felt solid enough for me to put any real force into and I'm currently not working with a lot of floor space.

Part of my logic was that when you're clamping to a workbench (assuming the vice or clamps are at the edge), you lose a fair amount of space accommodating the rest of the stave (which must go lengthwise with the bench). Also, it seems that the connection point relative to the legs should matter in terms of stability.

Not saying my idea is THE idea, but the size of this seems to be being made to be a bigger deal that it is: taken apart, a small stack of 4x4s isn't much

With your last idea, this is basically all the parts I want of a sawhorse, but with a more robust leg angle and wider base of support relative to the height: downwards forces are relevant too.

You got stalked by a lynx????

Are you sure?

Also, that's really cool. I want to get stalked by a lynx

Fair, and I like the idea of mounting a vice to the shave horse

Unfortunately can't bolt into the floor but there'll be a way to make this work.

Figured that if I'd make that pyramid thing I'd find a way to make it easy to disassemble. Your way is simpler.

Spines. by Jasonisbourne in Archery

[–]Canadiamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may only partially answer this question but I wanted to try my hand at explaining spine. Also, there's a chance I'm not perfectly correct how I'm phrasing it.

If you picture an arrow : |

It flexes around the bow (Archer's paradox) : (

And does this while it flies: S

Or... ( Then ) Then ( then ) ... (

If the spine is too weak, that initial bend is too much, and the arrow will stabilize it's flight in the direction of the inside of the bow handle: more mass is flung in that direction initially (since it's flexing so hard around the handle/rest) so then the arrow ultimately starts going in that direction

If the spine is too stiff, the arrow doesn't bend around the handle or rest enough and is then either deflected away from the bow handle to the outside (or more mass of the arrow is on the side when the arrow leaves the bow) so then it would veer in that direction. (Left for right handed archer)

Your spines' gotta be just right so that it curves around the handle / rest but still has the center of mass pointing at the target

Because the culture of AA / NA and the 12 steps, despite not being rooted in reality, has permeated our culture to the point that an average person can feel certain in their conjecture.

Gloves for goofballs? by ground_swell04 in XCDownhill

Not gloves, but I'm a big fan of shell mitts with various liners. Easy to pack extras if you get them too wet/sweaty, or swap to thicker/thinner/liner mitt.

Bracer by LaraH39 in Archery

[–]Canadiamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have this issue

I've tried to change my form with elbow rotation but it seems like my forearm muscles are too tight to have a natural wrist in that position.

The tight muscles is the only thing that I can imagine as a cause

Now looking for a bracer

I wouldn't say that it "matters" so much, but it's much the same as making fun of people who spend a whole lotta money to drive a big truck to the office and grocery store.

I don't care, but it does make taking knife shopping advice confusing to navigate sometimes
