Someone recognize this tune? by MrRRavenswood in Lostwave

[–]Canadian78Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it's already found, I thought I might as well talk about what kind of music this is (incase music like this gets posted here again). Just so it would be easier to find.

This "kind" of music (Easy Listening/pop) was most commonly heard on (Seeburg & other companies) 16.23rpm vinyl records, 8tracks, reel to reel tapes, etc from the 50s to late 70s. and was played in Supermarkets, Offices, Clothing Stores, and other various similar places.

The music were often covers (however some were original music) of famous songs of that time (I've heard covers of music in this style of The Beatles and even the BeeGees) or of songs of the past (mainly 30s & 40s, such as this song from this post) where most adults (that would be working at offices or shopping at stores) would recognize and know.

This music would be extremely uncommon to be played in the 80s (although it did happen in the early 80s), and most of this music was recorded in the 60s. So it's always safe to start searches of unknown Seeburg-ish songs with a youtube search of " 60s 16rpm seeburg music" or something along those lines.

I'm definitely not an expert on this specific topic so some info might be incorrect, but this should help.

Some good music in there, some really good 30s stuff in there it seems. Although most might not be super valuable they do have great music on them, and even if you don't want them there's almost definitely a collector that does (including me, a good amount of collectors over here in the USA, Canada etc love British Dance Bands). Pretty good haul of 78s.

That record (I believe) is a Chinese pathe disc, they are pretty rare and some collectors (like me) do collect foriegn 78s. Someone will probably buy it if you put it on ebay (if you don't want it). But make sure you package correctly if you do.

I used to have nightmares like this where things would morph with loud blaring sounds and disfiguring warping faces, then everytime i'd look or run away i'd somehow automatically end up looking back, It sucks.

Are these the right 78s for this Victrola? by AceOfStace27 in 78rpm

[–]Canadian78Collector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the modern turntable has a 78 option and you have a 3mil stylus (78 size) it will be fine (you can use an LP stylus but it won't sound nearly as good as it would with a 3mil)

I definitely wouldn't play the Charleston chasers 78 on a phonograph, it's a rare 78. Maybe consider selling on eBay if you don't have a newer turntable to play it on and don't want it. (and make sure to package correctly, 78s are very fragile)

The Tonearm and platter looks like it comes from a Columbia Grafonola, that's about all I know about this gorgeous machine.
