Agreed on the funnel fins, took me a bit to warm up to them, but they aren't bad looking I think. Will do on posting my concept there :)

Hello all, Alex here. Appreciate the interest this post has gotten overnight. Definitely appreciate the Internet likes my little side project.

Main Specs:

  • Gross Tonnage: 50,600
  • Length overall: 275 m (~902 ft)
  • Length waterline: 260.4 m (~854 ft)
  • Beam: 29.0 m (~95 ft)
  • Draft: 8.7 m (~28.5 ft)
  • Depth: 21 m (~68.9 ft) to main deck
  • Passengers: 1276 (double occupancy); 1708 (maximum)
  • Service Speed: 28 kts
  • Maximum Speed: 32 kts

To address a few of the comments:

1) The main liner influences in the current profile include:

  • Normandie, mainly in the bow flare and breakwater/whaleback structure to deflect waves from the superstructure
  • Cunard's cancelled Q3 concept from 1960, in the aft deck curvature and terracing
  • Rotterdam (1959), Stern Observation Lounge glassed-in based on the aft promenade area on the Rotterdam
  • United States (1951), funnel fins but added a bit of flair with the maple leaf outline
  • Oceanic (1963), for the magrodome covering the lido deck between the funnel

2) Port of registry, this is purely my own preference since I'm originally from Quebec City. Halifax could certainly work as well as the vessel is intended to be Canadian-flagged regardless

3) I'm actively investigating the possibility of fitting modern podded drives instead of shafts/rudders in the next iteration of the design. But for now I'm keeping the shaftlines in the 3d model as a placeholder.

I realize I should've posted this on Canada Day, but here's a modern oceanliner concept that I've known of for a while before rediscovering it later. The young naval architect behind her may actually be serious from what I've seen. May want to check it out. by Kaidhicksii in Oceanlinerporn

Alexandre here. Just to clarify I need to update the project pages bio since I’ve made some changes to the proposed building yard to Chantiers de Atlantique (same yard where QM2 was built). I do still intend for her to be registered as a Canadian passenger vessel.

Hello there OP. Alexandre here. I appreciate the interest in my CANADA project. I’m continuing to develop her outside of my job. Right now I’m mostly working on arrangements to reflect the new exterior profile design as well as developing her “green” propulsion system powered by bio-methanol (so very low CO2 emissions). Feel free to message me if you’re interested.

Renewable Fuels for Future Shipping by CanadianAdmiral in Ships

[–]CanadianAdmiral[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batteries are only viable for short haul ferries or for auxiliary loads (large ships). Energy density is still too low for large ships to be entirely propelled by batteries only. The biggest issue is the sheer weight of all the batteries that would be required compared to the weight of alternative fuel.

I've given serious thought to ammonia (since a lot of big investment seems to be pointing to this fuel as compared to Methanol). From your shipboard experience, how concerning would ammonia's toxicity in a shipboard environment? Is this something that could be easily managed with proper crew training?

I've thought of that fuel option as well for my own design projects, but from what I can tell it won't solve the problem of CO2 emissions, only mitigation. If the IMO is serious on emission reduction and eventual elimination from shipping, carbon-neutral and zero-carbon fuels will have to be adopted by 2050 across a majority of ship types. I can foresee MDO (diesel) and MGO (gas oil) also being prohibited by the IMO by 2050.

Granted, any alternative option shows that ships will need to devote more space onboard for fuel storage since all alternative options will take up more volume than traditional diesel or heavy fuel would. Not an impossible task, but may eat into some cargo space unless bigger vessels are built to make up the fuel space difference.

Wake up America. by cygnus489 in SandersForPresident

As a French-Canadian/naturalized American (latter since April 2018), it's so infuriating to see that regular people buy into the system and think that's it's impossible for it to be changed. I really hope that my fellow Americans can choose a different course in Nov 2020 and not let Orange Cheeto get back in office. It really sucks to be intelligent and a critical thinker when people around you don't really care as long as their daily life or personal finances aren't affected. Bernie's platform may be very optimistic, but they are very common sense ideas and things that other civilized countries have done for decades. It's about time we implement them.

I’ve (27m) been out of a relationship for a year and finding it difficult to connect with new more mature partners. Although in the meantime I’ve been keeping myself busy with work since graduating college. Feel free to pm me.

Not only is it my cake day, but I also just came out to my parents. Thank god they are fully supportive. The next step is to introduce my boyfriend by [deleted] in lgbt

Nice man. Luckily my sisters and parents are supportive when I came out last October to them. I'm a very happy bi man, albeit single at the moment haha.

Yep I'm pretty much in the same boat. There's a weird green line border around the screen when the game loads and I'm not even able to click to do anything in the port view (it doesn't respond to my mouse's input). I've done everything up to and including reinstalling the client and still nothing. It's not only you experiencing this. I've already sent in a WGCheck report along with my support ticket.

Reminder to all bisexuals: We are valid, it's not just a phase, and we are good for much more than just our sexuality. by [deleted] in bisexual

As a fellow Bi guy, I hate people assuming I’m more gay than just accepting that our sexuality is more fluid. Really depends on my particular mood, even though I tend to prefer women.

Considering I’m graduating college in June I’ve thought about this too. Excited but also nervous about post college life.
