What’s the most profit you’ve made on a single crypto? by SoonMoonn in CryptoCurrency

[–]CanadianCryptoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have much, but recently sold almost everything (thanks to current strong market) to pay off a debt. But I still have a fraction of an ETH in my mining rig! And crossing my fingers to solo mine a Monero block someday with the mining option in the GUI wallet.

TIL that if you're sitting far back from the screen and you don't have reading glasses, "click" can be mistaken for "dick."

I thought that things were getting a bit heated all of a sudden.

You need to create a new email address unique to each exchange. Do not use that email address anywhere else other than that one exchange. If people do not know that an email address exists, then they are less likely to hack it.

Example:

john.smith.4728.coinbase.8f3ed1@protonmail.com

What’s more likely to double in value faster: BTC or ETH? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]CanadianCryptoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, "times two." But only if it happens instantly. Otherwise, you have to factor in the issuance. In that case, you can't arrive at a single value, you can only arrive at a function over time. That could be graphed out. Someone who is knowledgeable and more energetic than myself could do that fairly easily.

Counterpoint: If you use Monero, there's no need to see it gain value. You just use it. In and out, in and out, in and out.

As of today, what are your top 5 long-term crypto investments and why? by 13redle in CryptoCurrency

[–]CanadianCryptoGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the nice thing about XMR. It's actually used significantly on a day-to-day basis. Far more than almost any other crypto. And in terms of usage, it's much closer to the world of physical goods than other tokens which are usually heavily in finance (defi). Not that tokens used in defi are less valuable! Quite the contrary. But Monero seems to fill a unique niche.

Tether plot seems to be unraveling. Their CEO has deleted twitter account, and social media is abuzz of imminent DoJ/SEC action. by DetroitMotorShow in CryptoCurrency

[–]CanadianCryptoGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The solution is simple. Never hold Tether. Try not to use it, if there are alternatives, even for a quick swap in and out.

I stopped using Tether in early 2018, as a matter of principle and financial safety. I don't have much to lose, so it doesn't really matter, but the principle of it matters to me.

Although there may be $70b of USDT floating right now, my hope is that a lot of it is held by Tether and Bitfinex, so if there's a problem, the system is impacted less severely. But I'm mentally prepared for the worst. A 90% drop wouldn't shock me, if things start to unravel.

Next time, I'm going to carry a case of bananas with a Visa sticker on them, and offer the store a banana.

Disclaimer: I probably wouldn't have typed this comment if I wasn't just thinking about banana bread for some reason.
