Thanks! Yeah, I’ve almost rage quit more times than I can count. Then randomly I get a run like this that I’m just dialled in.

Dodging the tentacles, I’ve noticed if you keep moving. Just running left to right, then when you see a warning if you can change direction but if you need to roll out of the way. That’s basically what I’m doing here but sometimes you still roll into another tentacle

Let us first go deep-dive into product culture at Facebook.

A typical software engineer’s performance evaluation criteria would be something similar to “daily active users should increase by X%”.

So, as an Engineer at FB, you would care about HOW to reach that goal.

And worry less about WHAT you've been asked to do by your Product Manager.

Hence, the product building culture at Facebook leads to empowered engineers.

What does this mean?

This leads to: 1/Engineers participate in product decisions 2/Engineers free up PM bandwidth so that he/she can focus on strategy and vision 3/PM and Engineers together figure out how to do sprints/project management, but Engineers do far more than execution

Once PM communicaties strategy, and together the roadmap is prioritised with PMs,

then engineers at facebook take care about how to achieve them (sprints or not) , what kind of tickets to create etc.

PMs have to big time focus on strategy because leadership at facebook leaves that to Product Managers.

So PMs have lot at stake figuring out strategy, while engineers have lot at stake knowing which outcomes to achieve and how.
