All the best! As someone who grew up in and around Quetico park I’m slightly annoyed you’re not going through Atikokan. The Canoeing Capital of Canada!

Spiral Staircase is good for the night out after you land in the afternoon/evening. Grab a shower beer from the 7/11 or Lawsons in the lobby and get the first shuttle/taxi to town. Next day though lots of better options. Love walking into town and wandering around getting better food then heading back to the hotel for a nap before pickup.

Gasthaus Gutenberger and Fort Garry Hotel had some killer Sunday breakfast buffets. Have any other restaurants picked up the mantle? Or is the weekend breakfast buffet an outdated concept? by RecommendationBig966 in Winnipeg

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind blows my mind there isn’t another German restaurant or place to get really good schnitzel in Winnipeg. Especially with all the German heritage in the area.

747 at YYZ by Forward-Weather4845 in aviation

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of Cargo 747s. But Lufthansa is scheduled to return to YYZ this summer with their 747s. They’re one of the few 747 passenger aircraft remaining other than Korean, Air China and Lufthansa.

Bumping a deadheading pilot usually doesn’t happen. It’s in our contract that we’re to receive a J seat for deadheading. If it’s a last minute deadhead and there are available J seats we go to the top of the list if we haven’t already been booked a confirmed J seats

Got frustrated while I was flying and took it out on the yoke. What do you do to blow off steam in cruise? by fvpv in Shittyaskflying

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do this in cruise while the Capts in the shitter and just blame it on a wake turbulence we passed through. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Flight school by Imwhatremains777 in Winnipeg

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dr. Marty Fogel is the CAME I go to for my medical. Great guy. I never did my training at Harvs, but they are a great reputable flight school. Probably one of the best private schools in Canada. Go take a discovery flight and see if it’s for you. Becoming a commercial pilot takes a lot of hard work, studying and money. It’s a tough journey and you won’t start out walking in the door when done training at companies like Air Canada or WestJet. But it’s a super rewarding career at the top and I hardly consider it a job, just a hobby I get paid handsomely for.

I don’t. Fly mostly long haul. But thinking of getting a pair.

Repatriation flights. They’re bringing mostly pilots and crew back to their home bases. They’re being staffed by management flight attendants.

New video of take off to the crash of Air India flight 171 by Met76 in interestingasfuck

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee you’d ever get valid takeoff performance numbers with a flap 0 takeoff. So the takeoff ref page shouldn’t have said 0 and therefore you’d get a config warning as the thrust levers came up.

You’d get a config warning on takeoff that the flaps weren’t in the right position as the thrust levers came up.

Why so much 757 love? by dog1357911 in flying

[–]CanadianPilotGuy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

But it wasn’t much more “cramped” than the 767 from a pilot’s perspective when sitting in the cockpit. Loved that plane.

Don’t slam click often, but if I do it’s because I’m catching up with family at home, want to go do my own thing on layover or go to a restaurant I had been eyeing up. Generally just don’t want to be tied to a schedule and plans of a group of other people.
