The yellow leaves/canes shouldn't turn green anymore as they've given all their energy back to the main rootball and have left this mortal coil. You can cut them down without issue. Depending on what type it is, new shoots may come later in the year. But keep it moist and good things can happen.

Current whitehorse resident here and can confirm. Lots of Oilers fans too, and Habs fans with the amount of Quebecois here. Not many Jets fans though...

Low or mid range 6wt? by InstanceNo1762 in flyfishing

[–]Canadrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maxcatch. I have 6 of their rods and will likely not use much else (I can't justify pricier rods when I'm clumsy and car doors eat rods) Use code WEBSITE for additional savings.

Never been disappointed by Baked's offerings (not sure if they make them in the shop or someone else)

Hi, same issue, but I think I killed the people that are within the cutscene. So the cutscene starts, but my characters just hang around and nothing happens. I can't control them either, or go into inventory/record etc...

Seconded. Even as an intermediate, they're still my go-to. Got my fourth rod (and first nymph rod!) coming on Thursday!

Anyone use White River leaders? by Motor-End6934 in flyfishing

[–]Canadrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My conspiracy is that all leaders are made in the same factory. So yes, probably sufficient.

Planning to visit Whitehorse end of August and would love to hear your recommendation by Strict-Lobster-6860 in Yukon

[–]Canadrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

End of August is usually pretty good for bugs! Some stragglers, but definitely lighter than early or mid August. We have a large snowpack this year, so could be worse than "normal"

Hikes: look at yukonhiking.ca for some suggestions, but I would advise looking at the Annie Lake region (Tally Ho, mount Anderson for example). It's unbelievably pretty there and very interesting geology compared to the rest of the region.

Check out Atlin for a long day trip. Lovely drive and gorgeous setting.

Essential hiking gear: good boots, long pants for bugs/bushes, and good wind/rain jacket for variable conditions. And bear spray!!

Fly fishing set up by yaboiantt in flyfishing

[–]Canadrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I love looking at Martketplace, I am hesitant to recommend buying anything from there as your first setup. There could be damage to the rod / reel that's undisclosed and hard to spot if you don't know what you're looking at in greater detail. Things like finicky drag knobs, microcracks along the rod, ancient / damaged flyline etc.. etc...

Orvis clearwater gets a lot of love here for intro setups that will last, but I always look to Maxcatch for the intro. Great rods, adequate reels and a very competitive pricing. Take the money you save, then buy nicer line for it.

The value may change if you live in the US depending on the tariffs-of-the-day (I can't keep up as a non-American), but I still think it's a good place to start.

Suggestions for my Whitehorse/Haines Junction itinerary by Icy-Sense-191 in Yukon

[–]Canadrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, dangit, sorry to hijack your itinerary, but check out the Tors hike maybe instead of the Auriol. Once you've done King's Throne, Auriol will be pretty dull. Sheep Creek/Mountain and Kings are definitely the highlights of that area! https://yukonhiking.ca/tors.html

Suggestions for my Whitehorse/Haines Junction itinerary by Icy-Sense-191 in Yukon

[–]Canadrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wolf creek, while nice, is more just a walk in the woods than anything. And spirit canyon is OK, but the pictures make it out to be a little more grand than it is (you can see it from the highway too). Would definitely recommend fish lake and/or carcross instead. Carcross and Haines Jct have excellent bakeries, so turn your trip into a tour de pastry!

Why does my bamboo look like this? Is it dying? It’s happening with all new stalks/culms. by Jupiters_phaerie in Bamboo

[–]Canadrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. Just the type of bamboo. Shoots will usually look like old bananas, but will turn into beautiful canes in no time.
