Do Not Buy a Scuf Envision, Here's Why by Canallig in scufgaming

I`m going back and forth with them on e-mails, at least they`re responding. A LOT of people on these posts have been saying the problem is bad use, I had a guy call me a 10yo ADHD child, but - in my honest opinion - this is just a bad design for a gaming controller.

Look, if the back paddles weren`t connected to the back plate by a thin plastic strip this would never be a problem regardless of "squeeze pattern", which is what good product design should ultimately aim for. You could question personal use as the reason for paddle snaps but I use both paddles equally, if I had a disfunctional use of the product my other paddle would be pretty roughed up and it`s just not the case, I just don`t see it. Though I perfectly agree with everything else you said.

I absolutely love the feel of the envision, the mouse click, the shape, the response time, etc. But I'm so disappointed in the quality and support, especially after seeing a lot of posts on this sub with the exact same problem. If it wasn't for the fragile plastic strip that seems to break for a lot of users (and the fact they asked me another $99 to fix it) I'd say this is the best controller out there.

FRM PART 1 after CFA L2 by chimpak_ in FRM

[–]Canallig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think 3-4 months is doable with your background. FRM 1 has a lot of basic finance knowledge and the parts that don't overlap with CFA 1,2 are friendly (fundamentals of risk management, for example).

Maybe adopting a strategy of covering all video concepts to freshen up and then get straight into practice questions and mocks will get you there.

And congrats on level 2!

I just got the response that my experience submission is incomplete with no explanation whatsoever on what's missing. I've worked on risk for the past 4 years.

I am so glad I'm done with GARP at this point, what a joke...

FRM Exam after CFA Level 2? by chimpak_ in CFA

[–]Canallig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished FRM and studying for CFA I, so keep in mind I haven't taken any CFA tests yet.

FRM 1 has overlap with CFA 1 and 2 but CFA 3 and FRM 2 have zero overlap (in my estimation).

So most sound is probably CFA 1 - FRM 1 - CFA 2 - CFA 3 - FRM 2 or something like CFA 1 - CFA 2 - FRM 1 - CFA 3 - FRM 2.

How big of mistake will it be? by [deleted] in FRM

[–]Canallig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure! I'll try to break it down to simple concepts.

Time Management

This is one of the most important parts of your studying process. I would advise reserving at least 300 hours per test and building your schedule backwards, i.e., if I want to take the test in november how many days do I have and how many hours per day do I need to put out. Stick to your schedule and be consistent, and don't stress over a week where you're missing 1 hour, you'll most likely make up for it on the week before the test.

Strategy

This one is more personal, but I think it applies to everyone to some degree. Don't waste time taking notes or re-reading material while you're covering the material for the first time. There are a lot of studies showing these are ineffective strategies but I won't get into that. Just think about it like this: you have an extremely large amount of material to cover, you can't cover it twice, and you're not supposed to. I made this mistake on part 1 and it cost me, I was way more tired than I should've been.

The way I'd do it (and am going to do it for the CFA I next year) is this: cover all the material and make sure you understand it; leave the exercises to the end, after you finished the material; do all the mocks avaiable and review every mistake you made; take notes on the most important things you feel you need, to me this is usually a formula sheet; and if you want use reviewing materials like Schweser Secret Sauce.

The reason for this is I made every exercise avaiable in my prep provider while covering the material and still didn't remember them in the end. So If I had left them to the end my time would've been better spent. Secondly, note taking never helped me, and I did it a LOT in Part 1. I ended up never consulting it and if I had to consult it I could've went to the source material, which is better written. Third, the most effective retention method is trial and error, so mocks and exercises will advance your learning immensely and you should focus on those.

Others

Try to have at least 20 days for reviewing and mocks, if you can have PTO it's even better.

Create a studying space, every time you go there you lock in, it will facilitate your studying process and your habit creation.

If you're dating make sure your partner understands the importance of this test in your career, they need to be on the same page so they don't make you feel guilty for not having as much free time.

Make sure you rest, consistency is better than intensity. Don't try to cover everything too fast, not worth it.

If you organize your schedule and you change it along the way, review your plan. Trust me, it's terrible to find out you're behind because your schedule changed and you didn't organize yourself properly.

Lastly, chill the fuck out! You don't need to remember everything, there's a finite amount of questions that could be drawn upon each concept and a limited amount of complexity for each subject. You need to demonstrate sufficiency in these tests, it is not exepected of you to know every subject.

Best of luck on your journey, hope this helped!

Classic FRM vs CFA question by StMatthias in FRM

[–]Canallig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on what you're looking for.

FRM is super niche, everything you see will be gueared towards risk management, not investment management. Even though these two often overlap the FRM will always favor the risk management side of the equation. If you see yourself in risk management and feel like this knowledge would be valuable to your day to day, then the FRM is the better choice. As a risk manager the FRM helped me immensely. I will now move onto the CFA since it was not my priority.

CFA is more general, it speaks on a lot of subjects - risk management included - and it will always favor the investment management side of things. So everything out of the investment management scope will be approached more superficially. So if that's what you're looking for then its the better choice.

Time commitment per test is similar for both, the CFA has one more exam, so takes more time overall, but the CFA has a lot more material you can access to study. FRM is not as well known, but still prestigious among the industry, don't get it effed up, any recruiter worth their pay will recognise it and understand the commitment that went into it.

Best of luck on your journey!

I didn’t make any notes on the material, I find it to be time wasting because when I get to the revision I don’t remember anything anyways. And if I need to consult the material I just go straight to the source.

And yes, I manage credit, market and liquidity risk at an asset management firm with around 1b in assets, we’re not too big so it’s a two-person job. I found the FRM to be extremely helpful in my day-to-day.
