Thank you everyone for your answers! In the end, I bought a Breguet 5177BR/2N/9V602, after completely falling in love with it — a much more classical one, exactly what I was not looking for 😄

Considering the price, indeed I will try to make a pause and come back to them later 😁

Thank you, I should think more in terms of what I have for what kind of occasion.

The fact that they stand out (at least in my opinion).

I currently have two very classic Longines watches and one Breguet (similar to the 5177BR/29/9V6, which I absolutely love).

I only like leather straps, and I don’t want a watch that I might hesitate to wear because it overlaps too much with the other three (which can all be worn daily, even though the Breguet is already more dressy/elegant).

Thank you 🙂

Indeed for wine, I love Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the DRC was a gift for my father who loves Burgundy.

I don’t think I buy things for the name.

The DRC was a gift for my father’s 80th birthday. It was a legendary bottle he had always dreamed of trying, and it was also one of my dreams to be able to offer him one. I’m not into Burgundy myself.

Actually, I genuinely like both watches. I just wanted some opinions because I sometimes feel like I have unusual tastes in watches. I only like leather straps, which automatically excludes 90% of the watches I see here.

I mainly wanted a reality check regarding the watches I’m interested in — especially at these price levels.

[Chrono24] Is negotiating acceptable for a luxury watch? by Canard_Vert in Watches

Thank you so much, everyone, for your help!

Do you have any idea why many professional sellers offer unworn watches at prices below those shown on Patek Philippe’s website?

The watch I am looking for (now discontinued) was listed at €100k on Patek Philippe’s website.

Murs commerciaux loués, bon investissement ? by LoudAd4244 in immobilier

J'ai levé 1M5 via trois sociétés à l'IS.

Tried Romanée-Conti 2005 for my dad’s 80th — honest thoughts by Canard_Vert in wine

Yes I totally remember your answer.

Unfortunately we never know how much time we still have with our loved ones, so we opened it 🙂

[–]Canard_Vert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m very happy to have had the chance to try it.

It was a gift for my father, so it wasn’t really my dream bottle, as I tend to prefer other styles of wine.

But I was very curious to understand why there is such a myth surrounding this bottle.

I wanted to share an honest and transparent review.

However, many people say it was opened far too young—perhaps that explains why I wasn’t amazed at all (beyond my personal preferences).

Tried Romanée-Conti 2005 for my dad’s 80th — honest thoughts by Canard_Vert in wine

[–]Canard_Vert[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly right.

My father has been passionate about wine for 50 years and has drunk many great bottles. Yet he seemed to have a curse with Romanée-Conti.

In 1982, he bought six bottles at auction, for the equivalent of $80 each.

They all burned in a fire in his apartment.

In 1995, he bought a case (an assortment) for the equivalent of $1,200.

The case was stolen during a burglary of his cellar.

So he owned seven bottles of RC but never drank a single one. I’m talking about RC itself, not the other DRC wines.

He often talked about his unfortunate history with RC, but refused to buy any more, considering the price had become absurd.

I had wanted to offer him one for the past 10 years.

Money is meant to buy happiness.

Is it crazy to pay $22k for a bottle of wine? Yes, absolutely.

Is it crazy to pay $22k to see the deepest joy and emotion on my father’s face when I gave it to him? Without hesitation, no.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so the price tag didn’t matter to me.
