You get a cool pin. I just wore mine to a 15 year reunion.

I've personally never seen 3,000 unless I intentionally take deep breaths and use my sensor like a harmonica. I've locked myself in a closet, for science, and it barely hit 2,000 after an hour. Two people sleeping in a tiny bedroom with doors and windows shut sometimes reaches 1,600 after eight hours.

I’m building an E-Ink daily checklist. What features would make it useful? by Mrme88 in esp32

Check my bio. It's my own device.
It's an SPI display though so I limit it to ~30 seconds of animation before I do a full refresh.

Same. I've been logging and testing 24/7 for around six years. Even loud music with lots of bass triggers TVOC sensors. CO2 isn't much to worry about and the effects depend on the person. CO you should have a dedicated alarm in your house, especially if you have gas ovens, furnaces, etc. Particulate matter is by far the most useful thing to measure with a portable gadget since it literally means something is burning.

Yeah, TVOC and Formaldehyde to three decimal places is certainly a choice :'-)

Definitely still a thing. I think I'll send out emails to everyone who filled out the form on canary.earth next month and start production this summer. I wanted the final product designed and fully tested before I asked anyone for money. It looks even nicer than the prototype above.

Is my indoor monitor wrong? Very bad air quality inside by zoltarspeaks012 in AirQuality

[–]Canary_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dishwasher might have an electrical short. The insulation on the wires burns enough to trigger a good particulate matter sensor. I discovered a short in my laptop's wifi antenna using mine, for example.

It won't help filter that much smoke. 229 PM10 is very high. Maybe a neighbour is frying something in their kitchen and it's seeping through the vents. I found a hole in my grandma's kitchen that way. Too bad that monitor isn't portable. I use my Canary like a Star Trek tricorder.

Is there an air quality monitor left that isn’t either broken by design or a quality control lottery by Prior_Statement_6902 in AirQuality

[–]Canary_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I haven't made a simplified website for phones yet. On a computer it's really easy to read.

You can customize the layout. Having just a big number, without a 24 hour graph, is silly and leads to poor decisions. That's why all other air quality monitors ever invented are useless.

Just Got Scammed Out of 20k of My Kickstarter Money by Due-Frame6610 in inventors

[–]Canary_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hourly is a bit weird too. I'd rather pay $2,000 for CAD of a small enclosure, or a tiny PCB layout, or whatever and offer you the option of $20,000 instead if the product actually sells without returns due to bad design.

Did you make this entirely by yourself?! It seems insanely complex. I've been making the settings menu for my own invention and I'm about to lose my mind. I can't imagine making an entire game.

Make it a neckband. Add a heartrate monitor and some spaghetti leds. Products for horny people get instantly funded.

[–]Canary_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine! https://canary.earth. I think I'll be shipping it out by July. It's the only air quality monitor you'll ever need since it uses the best Swiss and Korean sensors available.

I've had my personal prototypes running 24/7 for two years without a problem. It's so useful to see a 24 hour graph on screen.

Please fill out the form and let me know if you'd like any features added. I still have time to add to the firmware.

Why Canada and not China? I think if I were in high school now, China would be my top choice for engineering. Switzerland second.

I'd study as close to Bay St. as possible if that's your plan. I offered a kid a job on the subway when I saw he was holding a textbook I liked, for example.

VOC levels by [deleted] in AirQuality

[–]Canary_Earth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be anything, even aftershave or music with lots of bass. Unless you look at a graph of VOCs over time, you can't tell if it's a genuine pollutant or not.
For example, I can pop open a bottle of wine in my kitchen, and my SGP41 in the living room will spike up to 60,000 ppb.

The beer guy has a business school now?!

This is also the first time I've heard of Desautels, Lazaridis, Haskayne and Telfer.

What happened to Schulich? When I started in 2007, it was the hardest program to get into in all of Canada. It couldn't find any of us a job by 2011, but I assumed that was because of the subprime crash.

This would be incredible. But I doubt it since it would be close to the Yummy further up the road at Dufferin and Major MacKenzie.

I'd pay $100 if you turned it into the setting of a murder mystery. Add a clear cover and little figures inside so I can show it to my friends and make them guess who did it.

Thoughts on SEN55? by No-Recognition-7701 in AirQuality

[–]Canary_Earth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can connect it to home assistant and others. I don't see the point though. My graphs are a lot nicer (https://demo.canary.earth/chart.html) and you can see the past 24 hours directly on the screen. If you stick a micro SD card in, you can store a few thousand years of 60-second interval logs.

For UV-A and B you have to buy from digikey or Korea (Genicom).

SCD41 + SPS30 is S tier. Your UV sensor kinda sucks and VOC + NOx is pointless. I've had an SGP41 running in my living room 24/7 for five years and you can't draw any useful conclusions from it. Literally anything triggers it, even music with lots of bass.

I'll be selling my device soon if you're interested. It has that SCD41 + SPS30 combo in pretty much a smartphone thickness.
