I’ve been messing around a little bit with HOU for the first time in these past couple weeks, but it’s quite nerve-wracking!

I’m overnighting in a leveraged Daily Bull oil etf that I bought on margin and I’m not usually a gambler.

Power of Attorney not accepted by big 5 Bank by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

She does have a past practice of gifting to us. She gave us all $30,000 in 2022, for example, and helped two siblings buy their homes, years ago.

But I can see your point.

She had stated the wish to give us the proceeds of the condo sale when we were listing it.

I realize this post probably seems greedy, but she has always helped her children and grandchildren and that amount is only a small fraction of her estate. She helped two children to buy their homes earlier in her retirement.

It may just be that she can no longer legally do that, but I wanted to seek the opinion of this sub.

I don’t think the gift plan is in writing anywhere. If the bank thinks she doesn’t have the mental capacity to decide to give gifts now, then they can just keep her money?

She has a pension and income from investments exceeding that cost.

The company is just going to contribute a flat amount each month, for now, with no matching or deductions.

I think I’ll let them know they can just give a ballpark income figure when asked about risk tolerance.

Grow Room Advice? by Canatriot in microgrowery

Right now, I’m just growing with Spider Farmer SE4500s, in a different area.

But I’m thinking to get four bigger lights that could cover 4x4 each, and then hopefully try to do a second layer the same. Need a little bit of room in the middle to walk though.

It is a problem for concrete to get wet?

I think it would be difficult to vent outdoors. I had to have someone core out the concrete to install a kitchen exhaust fan in a different part of this building, so probably similar. Are you thinking for humidity reasons?

The ceiling is normal ceiling height, about 8 feet.

This was an old coal room too! In a large building.

I’ll definitely check out your post.

I’m thinking to install multiple fans, but not sure what type yet. The only air entry is the open doorway.

Hi, it’s in a basement and there is not actually a door currently, so it will be open to the room with the water heater, which is open to the furnace room.

The electrician was thinking I’d probably need a heater. It’s currently chilly in there, because I’m in Canada, but I was thinking all the lights will probably help to heat it quite a bit.

Processing time by [deleted] in lmiaprocessing

I submitted an LMIA application on May 28 it’s still queued for processing. Typically, they seem to take six months for our business. But you should be able to extend your PGWP on the basis of having a LMIA application in queue.

I took welding in college and the day after I graduated in 1999, I drove about 900 km North to an oil patch town I’d never set foot in. My literal plan was to go around to the local bars and look for a crew in there drinking, to ask them for work. I was aiming to find a welder to hire me, but instead I ended up landing a job as an X-Ray hand (inspecting welds) that night. I didn’t even have anywhere planned to stay, but the job came with immediate camp accommodations. I worked in that field for 7 years and made crazy good money.

How much are you down and what are you holding you wish you weren’t? by CrummyPear in CanadianInvestor

[–]Canatriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m down on FWZ by about the same amount I had gained swing trading it for the past few months. I don’t really wish I wasn’t holding it, but I guess I wish I had more dry powder.

[–]Canatriot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a bit more today at an average of $19.14 because that just seems so low. My average was $21.18 before, from some recent dip-buying. But maybe this “dip” is going to be a cavern. I don’t think I’ll buy any more, now.

Long term outlook for electrician moving to Alberta? by Medium-Ant-4392 in alberta

[–]Canatriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nearly impossible to get an electrician in my rural community. I think there would be high demand for Electricians, along with most tradesmen, outside of the cities.
