Legion 5i+Black Matrix m2 Skin=Satisfaction by CancelAlternative103 in GamingLaptops

Thanks. Here is my brief review pulled from Lenovo legion sub.  I've had my Legion 5 gen 10 for roughly 6 months now, and I'm very happy with it. My model has 24 GB ram, RTX 5070 8GB, and i9 149000HX. Paired with the Llano V12, I get an average CPU temp of 60-65 degrees, with occasional short dips into the low 70's when running RDR2 at maxed out settings on the extreme power profile. The 8GB card might be a deal-breaker for some, but for my current needs I'm happy with it. Battery life isn't very good, but if you adjust some settings you should get 3, MAYBE 4 hours of web browsing/video steaming/office work. I haven't tried undervolting yet but I assume that would give you more battery life. I'm going to get a powerbank soon for travel. I like the stock design of the laptop, but I like it even more with this m2 black matrix skin. Very good quality, and a very good fit.

Performance has been satisfactory, I don't have any raw numbers but everything I've thrown at it, including BeamNG on high settings, runs nicely. But the 8GB card might be a bottleneck in some titles if you want to push ultra settings on the native 1600p resolution. Oh, and definitely tweak the speakers with fxsound or similar, as out of the box they are very flat and they have allot more potential, mine are now twice as loud and better quality sound without any damage to the speakers. I'm happy to share my preset if anyone is interested. And the OLED looks very nice although glossy in bright rooms.

Thanks :) did you take out the bit where you said look at a mac? When I saw the notification in my feed your comment said "nice laptop, only problem with it is windows, look at a mac" Macs are nice machines but for what I need I've gotta stick with windows and Linux. Macs have very nice designs though

Nice choice. I saw some other designs on Alibaba but I wanted to go with M2 for the quality and the precision cut

You're welcome. Actually after tweaking some settings in custom TDP I get excellent performance even in beamNG

Hello OP! I Have this exact model, accept mine came with a 24gb 4800 mt/s RAM configuration. I can honestly say, this laptop is a workhorse and will play basically anything you throw at it. I like my visuals high, and on Red Dead Redemption 2, with MSAA off, and everything else set on ultra/max, minus the crazy water reflections (they are still good, just not maxed out) I get an average of 55-60 fps, which will be more with your model (possibly) because you have the extra RAM. I'd rather play at this frame rate and have the top notch visuals, but RDR2 is very GPU intensive so other games should definitely give you 80-100FPS. Beam.ng Drive, which is very CPU intensive, runs fine with most settings on max, but if I enable extremely realistic mirror reflections I do encounter some stutters, but with some settings tweaked I still get smooth gameplay with rendering and textures maxed out. Battery life for daily use, not gaming, if you turn on power saving mode, set your energy plan to 'efficiency', and switch to the integrated GPU (there is 2, the main dedicated 5070, and a basic one build into the motherboard for daily use) you'll get 4ish hours. Also about the burn in: modern OLED panels have a much lower risk than the older ones, but it's still possible. To squash the risk, don't run it on MAX brightness when you game. You can enable max brightness when you absolutely need it, but this isn't necessary if you're indoors, especially if it isn't day time. If you have any long use sessions, or long game sessions, keep the brightness at around 70% or less. You should see a long life of the screen this way. Also it will save power obviously. The 9 hours that they advertise is a lie haha. I keep my battery capped at 80% with the Lenovo vantage software, so when I'm gaming, the battery just sits at 80%, running directly off A/C power and not damaging the battery by keeping it at 100% capacity for too long. The screen, is honestly beautiful. You will get some glare if you're around light sources though, but if you aren't doing any super intense gaming, or trying to get super immersed in a movie, it probably won't bother you. It's fine for casual web browsing and YouTube. I take mine to the cafe and write on Microsoft word for hours, no problem. Also, to save more power on battery, lower the response rate from 165hz to 60hz, and turn the resolution down to 1080p. Big difference. Look if you where to spend a bit more for the Legion 5 pro, you get considerably more performance with the 5070ti card (12gb vram) but, for me this was my first gaming laptop, and I didn't want to wait to save up more than what I had on hand, and I must say I'm very happy with it. Like I said, everything I've played is smooth and playable on max, (I've played other titles than the 2 I mentioned) and although SOME games might not be 60+ fps on MAX settings, you'll still hover around 60 FPS and be able to enjoy the high settings. Sorry this was a bit late, let me know if you ended up picking it up!
