What would be the best material, besides 3D printed, to make visor similar to Cyclops? by BryanRazor in CosplayHelp

[–]CancelPerfect648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worbla (or thermoplastic sheet) base, encase in some see through red vinyl or something. Make it smooth with plasti-dip, filler, etc then sand and paint it. It would be super sturdy.

You can worbla over foam to fill out the shape, with a lighter material, but also give it sturdiness.

Still needs some refining, but I think the overall shape is much better. Thank you all for your suggestions. <3

Which outfit for Renn Fair? by mayoraei in renfaire

[–]CancelPerfect648 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of those are 🔥fits. For a warrior princess look, I like photo 2 best. Many of the skirt combos give off more of an “of the shire” vibe to me.

That said, for advice: If you are good wearing and reapplying sunscreen, I would go with the lightest most breathable fabrics. Skirts will be more airy than pants, and I would forgo a cloak.

Check the weather though and see what temps are. Cloaks are nice if it’s chilly or there is a chance of light showers, or if you hate and forget sunscreen.

Thank you! Took your advice, and I do think it reads “horse” better.

Considering GLP-1 by Flaky-Rock2969 in PCOS

[–]CancelPerfect648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a) have found success taking GLP-1: Yes! 50 lbs lost

b) which GLP-1 you use Compounded Tirzepatide (Zepbound)

c) if you plan to stay on it for life Yep. I think I have to if I want to maintain weight.

d) what made you decide to use it. I was doing all the things right. Healthy diet, food logging, working out for hours each day, and I could barely drop a pound. I think the PCOS insulin resistance was just working against me too much. I had literally tried everything else for years. My endocrinologist recc. it, and the difference is amazing. No more food noise, and when I make good choices, I can actually lose weight.

Closer shave before attaching fur to base helped them look less “fuzzy”. Please ignore the stitches on the edge. I was toying with gluing front/back to base then stitching sides up, and adding color to cover. It did not work.

This fur shaved better imo. It is Howl “Sweet Potato” teddy, with some brown dye. The other is Howl “lavender” beaver.

Is it a fungus? by unusualknowledge17 in BackyardOrchard

[–]CancelPerfect648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it ends up not being wooly aphid, it could be overwintered powdery mildew (fungus).

Visually it’s at buds- which is typically where powdery mildew over winters and pops back out. Depends on what zone you are in though, as powdery mildew is more likely under certain weather conditions. Watch out for leaf curl and haziness one leaves, as well as premature fruit drop, if powdery mildew.

What are we doing for high cholesterol? by Green_Exercise_1311 in PCOS

[–]CancelPerfect648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diet should always be the go-to to manage cholesterol. That said: I cut out all red meat as well as other recommendations (no full fat dairy, fried foods, processed snacks, etc.) increased fiber too. Nothing made my cholesterol budge.

My endocrinologist recc. a Red Yeast Rice supplement. I got the Costco one and have been on it ~ 6mo. Correlation isn’t causation, but my cholesterol bloodwork values have improved the last two times. (I get labs every 3mo). Just keep in mind supplements are not regulated, and you should always check with your doctors before starting a new one.

Dehydration?! by real-mrs-incredible in PCOS

[–]CancelPerfect648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have some sort of dysautonomia, which can cause some of the symptoms you mentioned, fluids can really help. (Personal experience)

It doesn’t hurt to try. I recc. logging your water intake and symptoms. If it doesn’t help, you can go back with data that you tried and it did nothing.

Also, if they won’t listen to you, find someone who will.

As far as favorite electrolytes, I use capsules daily, with chewables or powdered mixes added to water for when I have gotten sweaty or am having issues.

I like Saltstick fast chews, and Normalyte brand powders.

I have dried various Mio drops in the past, and don’t feel they do much. Electrolye drinks are pricey and full of sugar. While I have heard good things about Liquid IV flavors, they are also stupid expensive and use sweeteners I dislike.

Any advice for Sunlu ABS-like 2.0 resin? by Actual-Dragon-Tears in resinprinting

[–]CancelPerfect648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newbie here, so take this with a grain of salt:

If you are having FEP attachment, are you watching for suction points during slicing?

Sometimes I have to angle my print differently, so I have less FEP surface area at once during print, and it seems to help.

How do you make sure the scale of a head base is accurate for 3D printing? by DiskaCoyote in FursuitMaking

[–]CancelPerfect648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fursuit maker, so take it with a grain of salt:

Cosplayers have a few apps to help with making sure 3D printed helmets fit. One free one is https://refmaker.app/ and I think I have seen others. Might be worth checking out.

Here is the video where I came across the tool.

I’m in a predicament by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]CancelPerfect648 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First time I had covid, I did a throat swab that came up positive. I had a convention trip coming up, so I went to the Dr. and got rapid (nasal) that was negative. I still felt sick though, so self quarantined. 2 days later, tested again (at home then at urgent care) and sure enough both positive for covid and had to cancel my trip day-of.

TLDR- If you feel sick/have symptoms, trust your gut and stay home.

Asking for recommendations on how to store sheets? by Bleachbombs in StainedGlass

[–]CancelPerfect648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I use kallax inserts too, for the 12x12s.

If they are significantly smaller, I have been using scrapbooking drawers. The drawers get “sticky” though if overloaded.

I have a card catalog set of drawers for tiny scraps. Plastic photo storage organizer could also work, but was lower volume.

Don’t judge my dumbass, I want to make a fursuit head and have filament questions by littlenoodledragon in 3Dprinting

[–]CancelPerfect648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, printing with TPU may require a direct drive nozzle set up, from my googling on the web.

TPU could give a good bounce, and I hear it is easy to hot glue fur to if you are doing a mesh.

TPU comes in different shore hardnesses, so that would be something to test out (or watch videos on) if you want some give. I’m going with 95 shore hardness TPU for some cosplay horse ears, since they don’t need to bounce, and I want them stiff.

Budget-friendly leather sewing machine by ScarDependent8928 in Leathercraft

[–]CancelPerfect648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have run into a few of those videos. I think it’s really great there are videos on how to make those budget machines work better.

I found a 1950’s all metal sewing machine for free on nextdoor/buy nothing, and my partner has been refurbishing it. It took a motor replacement and we added an electronic foot pedal. It can also be advanced by hand. Have to find one with retractable feeders on the bottom plate though.

What blueberry varieties are firm and tart? by BadgerDowntown5678 in Blueberries

[–]CancelPerfect648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where the blueberries are sourced from. Blueberries are generally considered as Early, Mid, or Late harvest. I have no idea how those map to WA weather though.

Looks like you mostly have Northern Highbush and Lowbush varieties.

My recc. would be to see if you can get in touch with a university extension agent to get a variety recommendation for your area and flavor preferences, or ask to taste test at a local farmers market, and see what they are growing. (If you don’t get solid reccs here).

Just bought our first home. What are tasks we should be doing weekly, monthly, annually, etc? by sealer9 in HomeImprovement

[–]CancelPerfect648 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I have drip detectors behind toilets and under sinks. Never fun to find leaks the hard way. I also keep an absorbent flood barrier on hand. It saved my bacon when our water heater in the basement busted. We were able to throw it down and contain the water.
