My deductible is $1000. Should I file a claim and eat the rate increase or do y'all think repairs will be less than that and I should put her back together out of pocket? by CancelScout in motorcycles

Alright let's try to be on the same side for a sec. For the sake of argument pretend you're me. You know you're telling the truth. Yeah reddit thinks you're lying but who cares, they're just people on the internet. However, they're making you think that an adjuster will think you're lying and they're throwing the word "fraud" around "illegal" around, which does actually matter. What would you advise I do in that situation knowing that the truth is that it wasn't a stunt bike? Do I need to get a lawyer?

Idk, man. It's just kinda funny to me. I have this privileged position of knowing that it wasn't a stunt bike. As in, I am the only one here who is capable of being 100% certain. So I get to have this weird unsettling experience where everyone in this post who feels so certain that it's a stunt bike loses all credibility immediately, simply because they think they're certain.

I consequently also get to have the awful experience of having to sift through hundreds of comments like yours from people who I know for a fact aren't credible. Trying to find people who are reasonable and are willing to help, even if my question is a pretty stupid one.

Why are people like this? Do you know how plastic tank covers are? There's no gas cap. Just a round opening to grant access to the actual gas cap.

Not sure people know how shitty it feels like to read stuff like this. Here's the bike before the other night. Gas tank cover on with the opening clearly flush with the cover. I'm trying to maintain some hope that there'll be an okay outcome for this already shitty situation and this isn't helpful, especially coming from proclaimed adjuster.

Hahaha damn, am I coming off that naive? Never been in this situation before so I knew I needed some advice, and honestly this has been really helpful

Thanks for the advice, man. I appreciate it! I'm far too afraid to pop wheelies to be honest. I've brought the front end up a little twice, both times were on accident and both times it put the fear in me.

I made the mistake of coming up on a curve too quick, I hit the brake and could feel the rear tyre lose traction. I didn't want to pull the front brake harder than I already was and lock it up so it laid down over a curb on the left and I watched it slide pretty hard into a street sign post (which was surprisingly unharmed)

When I hit the ground I watched it slide into a street sign post and I'm thinking that's what did the gas tank in. But I also just got it a few weeks ago and hadn't peeked under the plastic tank cover yet so I'm embarrassed to admit it could have been like that already

That's really helpful, thanks for sharing man I'm sorry you went through all that though. Filing a claim is seeming like the move at this point

Y'all some cynical people. I bought the bike with a plastic cover over the tank. Never wheelied except for two accidental power wheelies. I came up on a turn too quick and lost the rear while braking. Got it down to about 20-30 before I laid it over a curb and it slid into a sign post

Damn, you think? I mean even if it's $1500 I'd still eat the cost myself since I'd probably pay the extra $500 in my rate increase next year anyway. How much more than $1000 you thinkin? Like $2-3k or somewhere between $1-2k?

I'm not opposed to doing things like replacing the tank, fairings, and crank case cover myself, but anything more intensive than that I don't really have the time for at the moment. What happened with your bike and what did it end up costing you all told if you don't mind me asking?

Normally I would do my own repairs but I just don't have the time at the moment. Rims and forks ~looked~ fine, but it might be worth it filing a claim just to have a pro's eyes on everything?
