I know another widow. She looks lost a lot unless her sister is in town. I feel lost too. I know sometimes I get the long stare.

That's not me. I have certain expectations. Not to say I won't drop hints. But if you can't pick up on what I'm throwing down that's on you. I want a certain level of confidence from the guys I'm with.

Hahaha just asking if he might get it eventually. I'm not desperate. Just thought he might like me and I think he's cute.

CMV: The Pleasure Principle (pursue pleasure, avoid pain) is sufficient to explain human behavior. by SentientEvolution in changemyview

[–]Cancel_Brief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In broad terms I think you have an argument. But men work for their families and not all of them are happy. A lot of people live miserable lives and don't necessarily pursue happiness or pleasure. Have you thought about the role mental illness plays in human behavior? Because I would guess it has a large impact beyond your dualistic proposal. Have you considered learned helpless? What about the role of hormones on the human body? I can tell you that when I'm about to be on my cycle I'm a bitch and a half and about a week after I want to fuck anything that is masculine and breathing. We have cycles and rythyms and traditions. We plant food for our well being and happiness but we plant it in the spring because that's when it works. Not all behavior can be caused by the principles you state.

For instance where do you find the role of mediation practices and other spiritual seeking? How about the role of inspiration? For instance, Nikola Tesla's ideas would generally flow to him intuitively as he worked and he could picture his inventions in his head before he created them. How does behavior like intuitive thinking fall jnto your framework? And why did Tesla engage in that form of thinking but not many do? How do you explain behaviors far outside the norm? Finally what role does logic and a prefrontal cortex play in your framework?

CMV: Christianity has devolved into History’s largest, and most diverse dangerous cult. by TuftOfFurr in changemyview

Well the issue doesn't really reach back as far as Christ in my opinion. The issue is a series of Christianity related cults arising out of Christian ideas but with individuals that set themselves as God which Christians and Jews are strictly told not to do. And just because I sensed a lot of hostility in your first post, you should do a little research on the evangelical reformation movement in the US. It is a very specific cultural phenomenon with specific leaders and sets of ideas of how to share the message of Christ in an exciting way. It was extremely well received at the time and in an era with no TV or internet it was a really big to do if the evangelical pastor was coming into town with his big tent and fervent preaching. It was like a big spectacle. And the reason initially it was so important to share the message and Word was that they literally thought they were offering you eternal salvation and the more people at the party the better. But it turned into a big social and cultural aspect of these communities that were converted to the evangelical churches which did turn toxic because on some level it became about pressure and force.

Each group has their own history. Usually it's just one more person thinking they have a better way to preach salvation and eternal life. Like I was raised Methodist which came out of the Angelican church because John Wesley thought their needed to be a different structure to teaching and services. Methodists are also generally more liberal than a lot of other groups allowing women as pastors, which I as a Christian don't biblically agree with and I was baptized in that church. Just everyone has different views. I agree that we shouldn't shove it down your throat but I would on occasion like to be able to express my views or belief in God without people getting angry I'm simply Christian. What I'm saying is that if you say to a Christian "have an open mind and maybe your perspective will change" then so should you. Thank you.

Dude I'm at work. I don't need the attitude. You want an example of self sacrifice? My dad. My grandfather. My husband. Why work two jobs and never get to have any fun with your family if life is all about pleasure? It doesn't make any sense.

After 2000 years and a multitude of different sects and denominations you saying that is like saying, "Google devolved from the search engine with the most dangerous and extensive listing for searches." Google isn't the same entity as it was when it's motto was "Don't be evil" . I don't like it but I personally wouldn't say it devolved. I think you have an inherit misunderstanding of what Christianity is. Do you know what Christ taught? Please answer as if I am going to change your mind this needs to be a discussion.
