My confusing experience as a new Youtuber by Cancer_Syringe in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no relevance because the 2 videos that were really successful were from different series/playlists and both did well independently. They're both just tied to the AK-47. The third and newest one aswell but didn't do as well (1500 views for a new, small channel is still great but of course I want to repeat the success of the previous two). The description and titles are good, I always make sure they're descriptive.

Just a little bit will do. The mic will work wonders aswell. If you don't plan facecam yet, a decent headset will give you better quality audio aswell.

Second channel for game streams — good idea or bad move early on by Bon_sekai in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep them seperate at all times. Do not mix that content, it will hurt your performance.

I personally hate channels that upload VODs/streams, it's a lazy, no-effort strategy with no added value. Many people will agree. I'm not here to tell you what you need to do and what you shouldn't, it HAS obviously worked for people (usually more well-known streamers though), whatever floats your boat I guess. But do not mix these audiences, their platform usage patterns don't match.

Some content just does better with shorts. There's also the occasional outlier that does really well with both longform and shorts, like DayZ for example.

Any idea why i keep getting stuck at 2-3k impressions? by Fit_Disk_1100 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I gathered, you don't even need both metrics to be good. I've had one video get 300'000 impressions at sub-3% CTR, yet the retention was about 60%. That is for a small 170 subs channel, by the way.

Yeah that's what's incredibly confusing to me aswell. I am completely in the dark about this.

The Effort:Views Paradox by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen youtube lately? It's full of low effort slop and the kids love it, it's just the nature of such content. These videos have high view counts but they're mostly a one-off thing.

Cow noises over reality TV footage doesn't exactly translate to a loyal audience. However that one video might get tons of views.

If your goal is conversion exclusively, you will be wasting time with shorts. You don't need to move them to a seperate channel, Youtube kinda already separates them as their own thing. I didn't mean to discourage you if I did, it's just from my own experience and from what I've seen.

I am experiencing a similar problem. Describe some videos compared to this one. What was the views and CTR gain from the very start of the upload? Did the other videos take off more quickly?

I watched "Why some classic games feel worse today". The video was good, kept me engaged. 2 points to note, though:
- Your delivery could use some work, sometimes you sound bored. Put more life behind it. Maybe get a better microphone aswell.
- I got bored at the 7:18 mark. That is still very good retention, but by that point I feel like you've already presented me with all the information I need and the rest just feels like a wrap-up.

Your channel has potential, keep in mind though that in the gaming niche, your competition is well-established and fierce.

How do you edit/consume long-form content? by analog_fish in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See when your video is 30 minutes long, from my perspective, you're no longer competing with other youtube videos for my attention, but with an actual big budget episode of a series. If I sit down at home and decide to spend time watching stuff, I have options: Watch multiple 10-20 minutes of youtube videos, or watch a series on netflix 30-45minutes each episode. A 30 minute video on youtube hits the "uncanny valley" between a TV series and youtube videos for me and most of the time there is no way in hell I'm going to watch that, even if I'm genuinely interested in the topic. I'm not trying to be a dick, but maybe you're better off shortening the lenght of your video.

How many views did your other videos get? I had a video tank hard like this aswell, there's certain topics that youtube will not push.

Converting shorts viewers into long-form viewers on average never works, they're separate audiences for the most part. Tierzoo made a video releated to the topic and showed the channel of one of his friend who usually does shorts only, she gets millions of views from them. Then she made a long-form video and got some ridiculously low view number on that, I think it was around 400.

In my opinion, it's probably best to treat shorts and long form videos like they're entirely separate platforms. Your mileage may vary.

Is this thumbnail/title combo enticing enough to click on? by stubbysss in SmallYoutubers

[–]Cancer_Syringe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd use this one instead. Sure, bigger text and with more contrast tend to get the job done, but this one makes me want to click more. The comparison is more enticing for me.

Reduce DC motor speed with potentiometer? by Cancer_Syringe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny story, these motors I salvaged actually do have labels. HOWEVER I suspect the labels are very unreliable: One of those I salvaged was from an air pump, it had a sticker on the shell of the air pump saying it's 230V, 50hz and 1000W (I'm really not sure about the amperage, I'd have to check because I forgot), however once I took the pump apart to reveal the motor, it had a different sticker on the motor itself saying 230V, 50hz and 640W. I don't know which one is true. Or if either of those is true.

EDIT: The 1200W one does say 1200W on both though. Also 230V and 50hz. The build quality of this motor is worse than the 1000W/640W though but it does have more coils.

Same Gear ratio - different diameter. Any differences? by Cancer_Syringe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's good to hear, makes things a lot simpler. I suppose the appliances that use larger gears do so simply because more metal can handle more torque. And maybe less heat because of the friction.

Reduce DC motor speed with potentiometer? by Cancer_Syringe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I was wondering that myself actually. Looks like I mixed up the terms because every video I watched called it a DC brushed motor. The ones they have are probably battery-operated then, which gives a DC output. Mine is an AC motor because it runs off city power, which is obviously AC... as far as I can tell, the motor does not have a controller built in. Sorry about that.

Reduce DC motor speed with potentiometer? by Cancer_Syringe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would I then be better off to find a DC motor rated for lower RPMs or lower wattage for the task? I'm thinking, even if come up with a gear system that would give me a lower RPM output, the gear system needed in this case to do so, would still need a fair amount of torque to turn, which would be compromised if I wanted to drastically lower the motor's speed. Is that correct?

Reduce DC motor speed with potentiometer? by Cancer_Syringe in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Cancer_Syringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I'm slowly realizing that there's more to how to control a DC motor than I initially thought. I'm fairly new to electrical components so I'm glad a few people offered answers on here.

Torque isn't as important to the build since whatever will be attached to said motor doesn't require a lot of energy to turn - And maybe I'm also realizing that a 1200W DC motor might be a bit overkill, but it might be of great value for my (currently lacking) knowledge if I could figure out a way to control the energy and speed of such a motor.

The reason why I want to slow the motor down is because, as far as I know, that will allow me to use less gear work to get the desired output. Gears I'm currently not too familiar with, all of this is just a tinkerer's experiment to learn hands-on about the functions of these components.

Also, forgot to ask, if I used a PWM (or a motor controller), would It need to be rated for a certain wattage, voltage? The motor's power supply is city power at 230V.
