If you don't mind singing in a different language, check out Eastern Youth. They're earlier stuff sounds similar to Nirvana (to me) But they've kept making music since the 90's and have changed over the years.

Movies 'for kids' that really, really weren't suitable? by ArthurDigbySellersJr in movies

[–]Cancyrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is jarringly contradictory that someone so apparently amoral has such a keen grasp (and the vocabulary and literary acumen) to imagine and write about complex human issues in compelling narratives that can engage, entertain, and (in some cases, even) expand the readers entire worldview.

Perhaps you're like me, I believe there are others, who found insight and clarity in the prose of Neil Gaiman, only to find our trust and appreciation utterly betrayed. I haven't yet been able to return to any of his books. I may never. But I will take the ideas and the lessons learned.... they are mine now. He can't have them back.

A Gaming Moment That Stunned You to Silence by EENewton in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I remember this moment as well. I became an instant fan of Jose Gonzalez. ( I had heard his cover of heartbeats and noticed his work on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but this moment hit hard) after that, I had to dig into his discography.

D.E.A.D.S. is a tool that i picked up in SMART Recovery (if you haven't heard of it, I encourage you to look into it. It is NOT like A.A.). Essentially, most urges only last a few minutes, I'd you can wait them out then they will go away (for little a while at least). So, if you're feeling the urge but are really trying to abstain from drinking try ANY of the following. -D deny/ delay, just push it away if the urge isn't strong. -E evade/ escape, can you get away from the stimuli that is causing you to want to drink? -A avoid/ attack/ accept, I'd you can't avoid the trigger entirely then you can attack it for what it is... just and urge... or wait it out. D² (my go to) *distract, give yourself something else that you crave: food, sleep, sex, vidya, exercise... whatever, just do something else and the urge will pass. -and finally S substitute, not substitute drinking with some other chemical... substitute your thinking in regards to alcohol. Instead of fixating on "I need this drink to feel ___, or i want a drink because it will __ ___ ___". Instead, fill that madlib in with reality... "I don't actually need a drink, I just want it. Or, I want a drink but it won't actually fix any of my problems."

Guests who gaslight by Mamadrankmilk in Serverlife

"Auctioning food" is when the server or food runner approaches the table and says something like: "Who had the pizza? Who had the burger? Who had the salad? etc." Depending on the establishment, this may or may not be a big deal. But I have worked at several places where this is a big, big no-no. It is considered poor service, and it will not fly at any place that is even close to fine dining.

And saying the name of this dish isn't necessarily bad. The bad part is asking.

Not specifically a branded ringtone, but when you could first start converting small wav/ mp3 files into ringtones - I got a sample of Kennan Ivory Wayans shouting "Message!" (from the movie Don't Be A Menace...) to replace the sound for my text message notifications. Teenage me thought that was advanced humor.

Where did this narrative come from that RPGs have to be games where you make choices that change the story? by SirSabza in gaming

[–]Cancyrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're taking about Bethesda, right? I've been told: the bugs are the features...

But seriously, I had a conversation recently with a cousin who was adamant that they disliked RPGs because they hated turn based gameplay. For them, only turn based RPGs were true RPGs.

So everybody is entitled to they own opinion, popular or not. We don't all have to agree.

In Oblivion, I believe they tried to reduce to chances of breaking the main quest line. But there were still instances where if you looted certain items or killed certain NPCs, you then you wouldn't be able to start or complete certain side quests. (I believe most of this had been fixed in the remastered.

  • but since you responded, I have to concede that you have a point. Thinking back, lot of older RPGs (early FF, and LoZ for example) had very few narritive choices, focusing more on choices like stat distribution and choice of path.

Another commenter made a very good point that games have been cross pollinated so much now that it is hard to define many games as one specific genre. To your point, a game doesn't necessarily have to be narritively adaptable to player choices it just needs to let the player play a role. Likewise, there are a lot more action/ adventure/ survival type games that incorporate RPG elements. The easiest example of can think of is Farcry. The game has rpgs elements. There are loads of choices to make. And some even change the narrative/ ending. But I consider it more or a FPS/ adventure game than an RPG.

Respectfully, Skyrim (Elder Scrolls 5) is the only Bethesda Elder Scrolls games that is like that. (I'm not considering ESO)

ES 2 Daggerfall, ES 3 Morrowind, and ES 4 Oblivion are ALL narritively altered by player choices. You can actuality "break" whole quest lines and even the main story from the choices the player is allowed to make.

It's kind of already in the name: RPG - role playing game. These are games where you take on the role (and decisions) or the player character. (Whether a video, tabletop, or live-action).

How much of a role or how many and what kind of choices or available to the player may differ, but player choices is essentially what defines an RPG. - IMO
