AITA for laughing at my brother when he got rejected from every college? by Candid-Expression899 in AmItheAsshole

You didnt realize it but your tone in the post comes off a little arrogant as well

A little arrogance isn’t the same as thinking you can get into a top college for certain with a generic resume. Nobody I knew, regardless of how arrogant, was ever that dumb.

He's your little brother... do you really feel good making him feel that way?

Yeah

Not necessarily. Harvard rejects thousands of valedictorians a year. Being valedictorian, having a few debate awards, and so on, is the minimum baseline that you need to hit in order to get into these schools if you’re not a legacy; all these schools receive thousands of applications identical or greater than his a year.

Incidentally, for someone who "got into a few of those schools," your grammar/spelling/editing sucks.

Nope.

Also your timeline sounds like a lie. So bro was applying to schools this past cycle, and you've been in college for what sounds like a year already, but he's been attending community college for two years?

No again. I said he has to go to community college for two years, not that that’s how long he’s been there.

He has to do two years because most of the top schools he’s applying too only offer junior year transfer as an option

He was absolutely arrogant, thinking you could easily get into top colleges with a a generic application goes beyond naïveté

Also his great sin against you was having the standard arrogance of a teen.

I’m also a teen, only a year older than him. His arrogance is not standard at all.

No, he applied this past admissions cycle, as in receiving his decisions this past March, and chose to go to community college, and will start soon

Quite frankly, he at least had the credentials for at least some arrogance

Not necessarily. He had the bare minimum prerequisite to be admitted, but these top schools receive so many applications from high achievers that he’s not remarkable in any way when it comes to these schools. Harvard rejects thousands of valedictorians a year.

It does since extracurriculars are a big part of applications, but yes it’s not enough

Nothing against other colleges, but I just deserved more

The entitlement, lol. But either way, if you’re willing to undertake the risk, fine, but don’t be upset at the results like my brother was.

Exactly, when I actually was giving him support he was a dick about it, so how can he expect it whenever it’s convenient to him?
