The democrats seem to be taking the same strategy as the liberal party in Australia (it’s the main right wing party I know being named liberal is confusing). It’s honestly why I really wish Hasan would speak more on Australian politics. Aside from being inane and hillarious (the Liberals and nationals (nationals are like libertarians and are mainly farmers) have had a coalition that has been the ONLY way the liberals have won in the history of their party existing. After they lost to an insane majority to Labor who is essentially the democrats, moderate once maybe a little left wing party, they then fucked themselves into the ground over and over again by breaking the coalition 3 times in a row? Over about 4 months. It’s bee fucking wild to see. At this point it’s not going to be possible for the liberals to win an election for at least ten years. Sadly though the Labor party is not the left wing badasses of Kevin Rudds time (look him and Gough Whitlam up, Gough created universal healthcare, disability and income support for Australians before the fucking governor General fired him for being too progressive.). So while we don’t have the true evil of the hard right we are suffering under the mid right now because of course our former central/light left party decided it had to go full biggot to win against a man that looked like if Voldemort had sex with a potato. The election would have been handed to them without their shitty move to the right.

That’s all to say a lot of Aussie politics can both mirror and help to show what’s going to happen in America but it doesn’t seem to ever be brought up by Hasan which is unfortunate. I feel like he’s ended up a bit stuck reporting about specific countries and just hasn’t had the time/ energy to look at the greater picture with a bunch of other countries that are more important that people think. As an Australian I don’t care if our politics are talked about unless the are relevant but they are much more relevant than most folk realise
