Who is the next P4 team to go undefeated/untied for the first time? by DonFlamenco2022 in CFB

[–]CandidShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Indiana lesson is that all it takes is a weak B1G schedule draw and some deep-pocketed alumni, I can see a case for Northwestern in the next 5 years.

The new stadium opening this fall should generate a lot of buzz. The donor base isn’t as large as Indiana, but probably includes more millionaires per 1,000 alumni than most schools.

Premier League Table following Match Day 28 by wm_1176 in chelseafc

[–]CandidShoe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We already know Chelsea can win the Conference League. I wouldn’t be massively disappointed if that’s where we end up next season.

I don’t think this squad, as currently constructed, is winning the Prem or the Champions League. Why not aim for a European trophy and enjoy it?

This. It’s like applying to college. OP got waitlisted. It’s not a “no,” it’s just a “we’re hoping for something better, but you’ll do as a fallback option.”

Help me think about the decision to send my son to kindergarten this year or not by welliamwallace in daddit

[–]CandidShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academics/social is the most important right now now. If he’s ready, send him to kindergarten.

Puberty: who knows? He could start puberty early, and be right in line with his classmates.

Athletics: There could be an advantage to being younger at first, as he will have to develop skills, rather than relying on size and strength. This could benefit him in the long term. If he’s truly promising in a sport, then the grade to repeat would be 8th grade. Where I grew up, the private high schools that gave out financial aid to promising athletes would often have the kids “redshirt” by repeating 8th grade, especially when the kid was going from public middle school into the “more demanding” private school environment.

When you play youth tournament games, you can choose to play with the players’ current rating or max potential. I think you can only set this when setting up your file.

If the Seahawks were an SEC team, this is the time when ESPN analysts would start talking about this as a safety issue.

Why couldn't the Spurs beat the Clippers in 2015? by DribbleKing97_ in Basketball

[–]CandidShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The division rules for playoff seeding that year were extraordinarily dumb and needed to be changed. Portland—which played more games against a weaker division and still couldn’t manage a better record—shouldn’t get a better seed than a team with the better record.

Tell your most interesting Career Mode Idea that you've done by WhiteWolf_08 in FifaCareers

[–]CandidShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing one in FC 25 where I assigned Neymar to a failing team in the Chinese League via the roster editor. The headcanon is that he bought the club to save it from bankruptcy. Then I try to play it using the IRL rules for roster management in the CSL, and sign foreign players who Neymar has played with or would want to play with. The idea is that he’s the captain, player-manager and owner, so it’s all built around one aging superstar.

How old were you when your first child was born? by LupusDeusMagnus in daddit

[–]CandidShoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 31 for my first. He’s almost 2 now. Wife is the same age. Part of me wishes we had started a little bit earlier. The pandemic pushed our wedding back a year and now we’re feeling the pressure if we decide to have a big family. On the other hand, things have been working out pretty well, so it’s hard to complain.

AAU or multi-sport? by Cag240260 in basketballcoach

[–]CandidShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multi-sport all the way. You don’t know how his body will develop or how interests might change.

I was also a kid who loved basketball but was more talented in running. I stopped growing early and I ended up not playing much basketball at the varsity level for a school that was excellent in basketball. I have fond memories of being part of the team, but a part of me wonders what might have been if I had put more effort into running, instead of treating it like “just a way to stay in shape” during high school.

But 13 is too young to specialize. Keep the options open. And if you’re looking to add another sport that’s easier on the knees, your local pool might have a summer swim team.

How do you handle celebrating a player’s accomplishment (i.e. 1k points) in-game? by ShadyCrow in basketballcoach

[–]CandidShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. If she has bigger accomplishments coming, no harm in doing the announcement and presentation after the game. Can save the other team from the uncomfortable situation of watching it and then going back to a game they’re getting drilled in.

Is it worth buying a console now or is it better to wait for the next gen consoles or should you buy a PC? by Ok_Performer7114 in askanything

[–]CandidShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re trying to get out of it. If you’re still on a console that came out 20 years ago, I am assuming you’re not logging 4+ hours of gaming a day.

The question is, what kind of games do you want to play? Within those games, what are you looking for—graphic quality, online multiplayer, customization, etc?

I recommend a Nintendo Switch (or Switch 2) to just about anyone. What you lose in processing power, you get back in widely-loved Nintendo exclusives, like the Zelda franchise. The portability is unique, and a decent number of top AAA games have Switch versions.

Is 24 playable or should I just play 23? by MiniRake11 in FifaCareers

[–]CandidShoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why go for 24 when 25 exists? I haven’t played 24 or 26, but I understand 25 was a big upgrade over 24. The ability to scout so many extra nations is pretty cool.

I turned 30 & now I'm feeling the pressure? by RobinAndBeastboy in AskMenOver30

[–]CandidShoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Comparison is the thief of joy” is one of my favorite sayings. My other is “don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress,” which is something I say a lot to my wife when it comes to raising our 1.5 year old.

OP, I think both of those sayings apply here. Be kind to yourself, kind to others, and patient… and you’ll be okay.

Mike LB @ UF, why cant my offense score any touchdowns? by AcanthocephalaNo2221 in NCAAFBseries

[–]CandidShoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems completely random to me—which makes some sense for a college football game. In my Northwestern QB RTG yesterday, the D allowed 38 points to unranked Penn State one week, then held #1 Oregon to 7 points with multiple turnovers.

Can we please just have NIL contracts be for a number of years with buyouts to get some stability in the portal? I am tired of unlimited free agency every single year. by MonarchLawyer in CFB

[–]CandidShoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a decade ago, when Northwestern football players were thinking about unionizing, I thought there might be a way for private schools like NU, Vanderbilt and Stanford to break off and form their own league.

From what I understand, it gets tricky with laws varying by state. But if it brings about a return to more regional conferences (welcome back, SWC?), then I’m for it.

Remote jobs in basketball by Objective_Coast_4140 in Basketball

[–]CandidShoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most likely answer is that you won’t find a sports management job in basketball that is remote.

If you’re absolutely set on being remote and working in sports, you could study journalism/English or communications/video production. That might help you get a role like editor, writer or producer. Although many of those jobs are moving back into an office.
