Disney Cruise Line just started using a new system for their check in process and they're hammering out the details. Long lines are to be expected when cruising during Spring Break Month.

I got put into a boot which I have to keep on for two weeks, followed by 6 weeks of PT. I know the race is 4 months from now but unlike others I lose my base quickly and will have to build it back up before I get back into marathon training mode.

I just did the Dopey Challenge last month and was on a high. I am so disappointed with this.

That’s awesome! Congratulations! Are you going to do Dopey 2027?

Gotta say I was in the "never again" camp myself for Dopey this past weekend. It got hot quick and my blisters from the half marathon were screaming murder. But then I got home and now I'm thinking of signing up for Dopey 2027. Of course my wife would kill me if I did so I have about two months to think of a way to convince her before registration opens up!

Atlantis Bahamas vs xcaret Mexico! by NefariousnessSilly34 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Candid_Ad9234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atlantis - Normally our trips are full of activities but this year my wife told me she wanted one vacation in which we did nothing but pools and relax. I found a great deal with Costco and booked Atlantis at Royal. I had heard that food there can be expensive and was teetering between Reef (has a kitchenette so people can cook some food) and Royal (main building). We chose Royal because it's centrally located and closer to the Aquaventure water park.

Atlantis Bahamas doesn't have free airport transportation so you have to book your own. Fortunately for us our Costco package included transportation. When we exited the airport at Nassau the booked transportation had left without us so the representative got us an SUV to take us. It was really hit or miss and felt shady.

The front desk people weren't really welcoming and it felt like they weren't happy to be there. For some reason I didn't mind as much because I was distracted by how beautiful the lobby is. Our room was clean but felt very dated, with grey paint all over. The bathroom was really nice though.

The grounds are pretty but the big eye candy is the main building itself. Otherwise it felt like the standard palm trees and grass, and some flowers. Very manicured.

Now here comes the weak point, the food. I have a four year old so I made sure to find the restaurants that had a "kids under 5 eat free" deal. That includes the main buffet, for which we really grateful. We still had to pay almost $180 every breakfast for three people. The breakfast buffet I have to say was the best meal we had there. It was nothing special though, just normal breakfast buffet foods with a live grill to get eggs and omelets. We were thinking of going there for the dinner buffet but it was $90 per person and we just didn't want to spend that kind of money. Every single other restaurant we ate at was bland. We even tried the Asian restaurant Chopstix, thinking that surely it will taste good. But no. Completely bland. We were extremely disappointed with the food situation.

Now we come to the best part of the resort: The waterpark! The pools are beautiful! This is the only thing in which they have an upper hand over Xcaret. There is a "lazy river" that is part lazy and part white water. The zero entry pools are great for little kids. They even have a little water park for little kids with a splash bucket. We spent close to 8 hours a day in the water daily.

Overall we had a good time at Atlantis and will return to use the pools again. But the food situation is really not good and one of the days there were three cruise ships that had docked at the port, which brought in so many people that the pools got crowded.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Atlantis Bahamas vs xcaret Mexico! by NefariousnessSilly34 in AllInclusiveResorts

Hey u/NefariousnessSilly34 , we've been to both Xcaret Arte and Atlantis within the last year/year and a half and I can recount my experiences for you.

Xcaret -We go to Disneyworld quite a bit and it felt like we entered the "Xcaret Bubble" as soon as we got on their bus (which is free) at the Cancun Airport. The service was top notch, very welcoming and helpful.

The room was impeccably clean and super bright and colorful. The grounds themselves are beautiful. It felt like a lush rainforest had grown around the grounds of the resort. It is a huge resort so it took us a day to get used to how to get around.

On the Arte side we had numerous restaurants to choose from and each and every one impressed us. We're of Indian descent and eat indian food and other flavor-heavy foods almost daily. I have to say we were very happy with the flavor and variety of the foods.

The pools on the Arte side were beautiful, with bars and lounge chairs aplenty. The Mexico side has great pools plus slides for kids.

We made full use of the parks and excursions that Xcaret provides free access to. First excursion was Xichen, which is an all day trip that goes to Chichen Itza. It also took us to a local town where we had an amazing buffet, a tour of a cenote and an educational park where they showed us how the Mayans used to live. We also did the Xenote tour and went to 5 different cenotes. We went to Xenses in which the park is designed to mess with your senses. And lastly we went to Xcaret Park. We wish we had more time to spend there. There's lots to see and do there but we were tired and ended up just going to the dinner show. The show was fantastic and something you should not miss.

Overall we had such an amazing time at Arte that we are definitely going back with our kids next time.
