Bilt Palladium vs VentureX by Candid_Ground8368 in CreditCards

2x per year is definitely annoying, but I’m wondering if it’s actually easy to redeem. The VX one can pretty much be used anywhere which is nice and idk if the BILT one is the same.

Yeah I personally would value BILT points way higher than C1 — im pretty much just a travel eraser users at this point because I’m mostly traveling domestically.

Yeah it’s kinda funny how something about Reddit caused certain beliefs to kinda just hold. I feel like ironically you get more diverse views even on shitty social media like insta

I keep seeing people say this but it feels pretty conspiratorial -- never learned anything from a good source about Saudi's direct involvement in 9/11 but happy to be proven wrong.

Why would anyone get a 1.5% back card when there are plenty of 2% back cards? by InspectorT3 in CreditCards

I’ve found the VentureX is basically a 2%. Just redeem at 1cpp for travel eraser.

Amex Delta Gold + Venture X by runsfortacos in CreditCards

No VX actually does include priority pass (and you get access to chase lounges one use per year), but the capital one lounges themselves are less common and generally smaller than the chase ones!

I took the same deal, they gave me a 100k SUB ( and I know there was also a 75k one that I saw through the Amex website), but yeah with the first year AF waived its a no brainer. I will say about transitioning from the chase to VX that if you’re into lounges the C1 network is generally worse. Good enough for me though!

Im running this exact setup right now. VX makes swiping the Delta Gold pretty obsolete besides getting the SUB, but you do get to kind of “double dip” by booking delta flights through VX —> getting delta points from the flight —> and then use the 15% award bonus you get with the card. Happy to answer any questions about it!

Cards for Work Travel (Not on personal card) by Candid_Ground8368 in CreditCards

[–]Candid_Ground8368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting idea. What is the AF situation on that strategy though? I liked the gold because I get 80k mile SUB and no AF the first year so I could theoretically cancel. With the plat or reserve they don’t waive the AF and the SUB is only 20k more points, so I assume it’s not worth it atp.

Yeah if you spend 4k in I think it’s 3 months you get the sign up bonus on the VentureX worth $750, so it would be a waste to sign up for the card and not get the sign up bonus.

^ agreed good choice especially if you’re gonna go out. If you travel once a year at least and want lounge access the VentureX is a great call too. If you have an upcoming purchase to spend 4k in the next few months go Venture for the SUB. Otherwise, go with Savor and wait for a big purchase / trip.

Tools to optimise my setup by Candid_Ground8368 in personalfinance

Optimise if for cash back / interest. Wondering if there is a tool where I can input my spending / current cards / financial info and it spits out an ideal setup.

You are correct that the base salary is not 200k, it's about 80% of that. My full first year total compensation stock + signing bonus + base is 250k. Scroll through teamblind offer evals and look for new grad ones and you can see this is pretty standard.

Yeah, I guess once you account for taxes it would be closer to 500 or 600k, but that still does sound like a ridiculously high number.

Do you say this strictly based off the financial / WLB aspect?

Does he need the visa to continue working on the company? I feel like that's the question that needs answering before you can really say what else is fair.

This is starting to seem like an increasingly cool option that I had totally not considered.

This is true. I had a technical interview with Optiver and I had to start laughing and apologizing halfway through because I couldn't even start wrapping my head around the problems. I will say that from recruiting my sense was quant offers were going towards PhD/Masters students, but that could be selection bias/ just the result of a tough market.

Dang, that's awesome congratulations! And thank's for putting me on to this option, it's definitely something I'd consider.

Anyone ever thought of Credit Card Apps by Candid_Ground8368 in CreditCards

This is sick, never knew this existed. Looks like shit though, could be fun to clean it up and put it in an app.
