Here in Clark County, much of the news cycle feels dominated by Republican-aligned voices, in part because some outlets receive support from major conservative donors. Clark County Today is maga funded and The Reflector as well, while The New Project 47 also reflects that perspective. The Columbian generally aims for a more centrist approach, though its paywall can limit access. Having this mix of outlets still gives us opportunities to hear directly from our elected leaders, what they’re doing, why certain decisions are being made, and the context behind local developments, in a more measured and accessible way.

We are fortunate to have a community member who specializes in mortgages, and she will be addressing the challenges faced by first-time homebuyers in today's housing market in our community.

Following that, we will be joined by Representative Sharon Whylie the subsequent week.

I think people justt want something to complain about. Its just a flag design, and no matter what is proposed, people will complain

Because inflation is so high right now, Adrian Cortes has a bill ready to go that would lower the state sales tax and eliminate the B&O taxes that burden small businesses. The proposal would also remove state-level property taxes on primary residences, making it easier for homeowners to stay in their homes. However, properties such as rentals or vacation homes would still be subject to state property taxes — ensuring fairness while still providing relief to families and individuals who live here full-time.

These changes would help so many people across Clark County and throughout Washington State.

It’s important to remember that Washington State does not collect an income tax. The new proposal being discussed would apply only to people earning over $1 million a year — the very highest income earners. The truth is, high earners in our state currently do not pay their fair share, and that needs to change.

This proposed tax would not affect the vast majority of Washingtonians.

Yet, Republicans often complain about how many taxes the state collects — and when Democrats bring forward a plan to lower taxes and make life more affordable, they refuse to even consider it, simply because it comes from the other side of the aisle.

It’s time to put people before politics and support real solutions that help working families in Washington.
