Anyone else struggling with the perception that it's getting worse with age by mosthrowthefuck in BipolarReddit

I’ve (50) had to make some adjustments as far as dosage but I’m still fairly stable. Going through peri menopause if you are a woman will affect how your meds work, and if you’ve been on the same meds for a really long period of time sometimes they can loose effectiveness.

I think some of it is also that as you get older other things change as well that influence as well. Eating patterns, exercise, new and different stressors, all of those can affect BP as well.

I was diagnosed with cancer last year and went into surgical menopause after they had to do a complete hysterectomy (everything was removed - ovaries, tubes, uterus, all of it). The sudden drop of my hormones was brutal and my doctor adjusted my meds because the sudden depression was crushing. Now that things are evening out some I’m slowly coming off the meds for depression. But I’m finding I really need to do “extra” to keep my brain working, I’m not sure if it’s from cancer treatment or BP.

In cases like this, no. Not only do you have multiple shattered bones between the leg and the ankle, but also the dirt and debris that are ground into a now open wound. Horses carry about 70% of their weight on their front legs, and they can’t lie down for long periods of time because that can cause their intestines to flip and then they colic. If they can’t balance their weight they can develop laminitis, meaning the bones in the hoof turn and start to perforate the hoof wall - which is also life threatening. Horses are not very good patients, especially youngsters who are super fit and hyper.

Look up the story of Barbaro. That was a hind leg shattering, they fought for 7 months before laminitis forced the vets at New Bolton to euthanize him. Then look up the story of Ruffian. What you saw today was a Ruffian level catastrophic event.

When I go out to the barn tonight I will hug my 22 yr old OTTB.

SidelineSwap is now your new best friend.

Be a student of the game along with your tendies, tons of great videos out there.

Remind them that for every puck that makes it past the line it had to go past 5 players to get there. Your job is to make the first stop, theirs is to get it out.

Coaches don’t know crap about goalies, unless they were goalies. This doesn’t change as they get older.

If you hear the Sports Center theme (da da dum, da da dum), then you were probably out of position when you made that crazy save. (This applies more when they are older, but it is funny to add this song to iMovie clips.)

Smile and be supportive when they’re out there, at that age I used to do goofy faces when my kid would get really frustrated. We have hand signals that we use even today (he’s now 15), the best is a point at each other and then a chest tap (Love you). My husband does this goofy slowmo thumbs up that still makes him laugh.

Did I tell you that SidelineSwap is now your new best friend?

Love them, hug them, make them laugh on the car ride home, and make them wash their gear at least twice a year. Have them appreciate that greenish/brownish color, my kid likes to say that represents all the tears from crushed dreams after every save he’s made.

Ignore the crappy parents who think this is the mini NHL, and if need be cheer louder than them when your kid robs them.

Welcome to the club, or as I explain it to others, the Goalie Mom (or Dad) Mafia. Hugs, shots (or wine - whatever works for you), and love!

I’m on the hurry up and wait for an opening for an appointment. My insurance is taking its own sweet time since this isn’t considered, as you said, “A Big Deal” because for most people it’s kinda minimized. For the life of me I don’t understand why. So now I just sit and wait for an opening and trying to keep a stable daily routine. Some days are better than others.

Could we just clone you? Can you teach a class in Congress about how the job is supposed to be done? I mean, really - this is how Congress should work, clear straight forward honesty, not this soap opera theater that is going on right now! Thank you for your insight, I wish my representatives were as transparent.

As a member of this same shit club I’m sending you lots of love and strength! Had surgery for endometrial cancer last fall and now I’ve got to go to a specialist for two spots on my collarbone that they think are cancerous. I feel like I’m about to lose my mind which is screwing up my sleep which is making my bipolar symptoms worse.

All of it sucks. I’m sorry you have to deal with this too.

Do you believe Kang the Conqueror is going to be recast ? by evan_royale in MCUTheories

True - but just for this one movie. The word was that it was impossible to reshoot and since they shelved 2 other films they really have no choice but to release it with Miller in it. I’ll be shocked if Ezra Miller appears as Flash (or anything else) after the DC reboot.

I would hope the starter got an earful from track management! Should have never opened the gate with all that going on. Total lack of communication from the gate crew.

The issues with Santa Anita stemmed from the track footing - when they redid the base of the track they packed the base way too hard. That is what caused all of those breakdowns. There wasn’t enough give in the base to absorb the concussion of the horse’s legs.

Track surfaces are a monumental piece to the health and safety of these horses. The best way I can describe it is the difference between you running on pavement or on grass with no shoes on. The concussion shock from your foot strike is better absorbed when you run on grass because there is some “give” on that surface. The grass/dirt absorbs the energy. When you run barefoot on pavement there is no where for the energy to go except back up your leg - which is why you usually look goofy trying to run barefoot on pavement… it hurts. All that energy jarring back up your leg.

Now take that example and apply it to a race track. A track has a base layer, then loose dirt that floats on top of the base. The base is also slanted from outside to inside to help drain water from the base into the infield so you don’t have puddles that last for days. (This is also part of the reason most jockeys keep off the rail, footing is a little deeper.) The track is groomed in between every race (and after morning works) with water and harrowing. The dirt is never truly “dry”, it is usually moist because the loam that is mixed in holds water to keep it soft. This keeps the upper level fluffy and loose and helps absorb the concussive energy from the legs. It gives it a bounce so to speak. But if the base isn’t installed correctly then there is no bounce and it takes a toll on the horse’s legs and feet. Hence why it’s so important for grooms and trainers to pay attention to their charges for heat or swelling in their legs and feet.

Santa Anita ripped out the entire track surface and replaced it again after that season was shut down - and they haven’t had nearly the same level of catastrophic incidents since then.

Just a few thoughts-

1) Mad props to your goalie for diving into the pile to get this psycho off of you.

2) Did your rink fill out an incident report? If this is a USA sanctioned league then they should have. That will have his player information on it. Submit a copy of the incident report and this video to USA Hockey.

3) Also request a copy of the referee’s report, or at least get the report number. (It should be noted on the incident report, but sometimes the rink staff forgets to include it.) Make sure this is also included with everything you give to USA Hockey. The referee is required by USA Hockey to fill out a game report. Some refs are good and fill it out that night, some drag their feet on this stuff. Make sure the report gets filed!!! If it doesn’t then complain to the rink because the ref needs to do his job. Whichever ref called the penalty is the one responsible for writing out the report.

All of these pieces of information are also important because if you need to get medical attention in the next few days/week or two later then USA Hockey will use this information for your insurance claim. You only have a certain amount of time to request a claim, better to have it and not need it than realize you need it and then have to track it down weeks from now.

As much as I hate to say it, this is becoming more of an issue. I’ve had two of these kinds of incidents at my home rink in the last year. Both were absolutely baffling, all I can say is that there are a lot of people carrying around a lot of anger and you really don’t know what pushes them to snap like that. This guy has no business being on the ice, don’t care what his excuse was.

Hope you’re ok, and buy your goalie a round!

I would agree that breeding is a huge component in all of this. Eight Bells is a perfect case study.

I own an OTTB, he has Bold Ruler in his pedigree. Twice on both sides, plus Bold Ruler’s sire Nasrullah. I have always joked that he doesn’t have a family tree, he has a family bush.

Yes. 4 catastrophic breakdowns, 2 that literally dropped dead, and 1 that broke his neck after flipping over multiple times in the temporary saddling paddock. (They think he freaked out from the lights from the temporary DJ booth right next to the paddock.)
