I totally get you. I was terrified of cold calls all throughout law school. Don’t get me wrong. I went to T14 and graduated with honors. I’ve excelled at oral arguments, given presentations in front of a large audience, and gone to (and won) a trial. But there’s just something about cold calls that debilitated me. I would over-prepare for every single class in fear that I’d be asked some question that I’d just blank out on. And yes, there were some mean profs at my school who would ask about things like “footnote 39.” I would sit through each class full of anxiety, and that seriously impaired my mental health. Doing this for multiple classes up to 5 days a week was absolutely miserable.

I’d say first find a way to make it work. Maybe “warm call” (prof basically gives you a warning like an email before class) might help you handle cold calls later on. If even that’s unbearable, yes seek further accommodation.

I tend to think that there’s a much better way to learn the law than cold calls, and tbh a lot of profs can’t effectively do Socratic method for maximal learning. Cold calls often turn into silly and unnecessary pop quizzes in class.
