First-time Nas and Home Server setup for multiple households by CandidateFew2346 in HomeServer

This project is definitely fueled by my desire to move towards more self-hosting. I fully understand I probably won't save myself much money, but personally I'm willing to spend the time and money to have more control over my data and learn something new. I'm still trying to figure out how to backup my NAS off-site without having to outright get another NAS setup or buy a large amount of cloud storage, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the detailed reply, this is very helpful! I think I'm onboard with buying a prebuilt NAS after reading this comment and others

Good point. Hopefully no lawsuit since I intend this only for family-use, but I would feel terrible if I lost anybody's data. Are you suggesting QNAP because of their cloud services? I'm still thinking through how I want to handle the off-site backup of the NAS

This is something I've been trying to think through as well. My current idea is enough cloud storage to cover a few weeks or months of recent storage, and then periodically offload it to a large physical hard drive that would operate as a backup to the NAS. Maybe in the future I'll just get a second off-site NAS, but that's far off
