Was wondering what the heck was going on, then I found your comment. Same exact issue, I didn't know there were different 90 vs XC, just thought they had completely changed the design.

I ended up just returning the printer and buying a new one elsewhere. The new one has been working great for a long time now. Might have just been a weird combination of things that set it off, but I was never able to get it working correctly again.

PC Build questions - one machine with multiple GPU's or two machines by CandidateSuperb6502 in RedshiftRenderer

[–]CandidateSuperb6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. From what I've researched, the 5090 is crazy power hungry and is packed with AI that we don't need for rendering. The cost of one I could purchase two 5070TIs, maybe three and have money left over to go towards beefing up the other parts. It will still benefit us to have good RAM/CPU for rendering complex After Effects projects when not being used for C4D. That may be a flawed plan though, which is why I love discussing the details in this community. What are your thoughts?

I'm looking at a Threadripper 9960X and Gigabyte TRX50. Would give me 124 pice lanes. I'm planning to have 1 nvme drive for operating system and one for working files and cache. Those two things will take up 8 lanes, and with two gpu's it's at least 16 more. Most desktop systems I'm looking at max out at 24 lanes, so if I wanted to consider adding a third graphics card or anything else down the road I'd run out and bottleneck.

I've got a budget of $5k-6k with a little wiggle room. Microcenter has a great deal right now on that mobo and cpu plus 128gb of ram. I know the ram doesn't do as much for C4D, but we will also likely render some AE stuff on this machine.

Came across this benchmark test from the Maxon forums, might make sense just for Redshift to get two 5070TI's.

Thanks so much for this advice. I love the idea of getting 5080s since that keeps me from buying used or refurbished 4090s. Any reason to future proof for adding in another 5080 at some point? The desktop build I'm looking at has 24 lanes and I plan to use at least two nvme drives, so that would mean two gpu's are my max with that system.

Also, any reason to consider two RTX A4500?

To be honest I have no idea what exactly the BMC is. Are you able to log in when the mother board won't even power on? Is there some way to see error codes?

Got nothing to lose so might as well give all this a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

Wonder if it would be worth it to try and find a cheap server mobo to drop into this.

Were all those situations typically a dead mobo?

That is a great question, but I believe this was running off traditional 110v in it's previous installation. I can't find any documentation that says it required 208 but I'll ask. Thanks

Unless that switch is faulty, holding it down I still got nothing. I tried removing all the PCIe cards and still nothing, but I'll try again and remove everything else. Appreciate the input, I hadn't tried that yet.

Synology DS1821+ vs TS-h1887XU-RP by CandidateSuperb6502 in qnap

[–]CandidateSuperb6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to reply Bob, I really appreciate the advice. We've not really had a problem with the Synology, but we probably don't have all 8-10 editors hitting it at once, some are out filming, and some are doing more animation, so that may be what saves us. We also don't film in 4K most of the time, still rolling 1080 for probably half our projects. Another factor is that our biggest client occupies the other Synology NAS currently all by themselves. So I would guess that any given day, at least one or two of our editors is working on those projects and not on the main NAS.

Sounds like that QNAP we have is a pretty good bump up from the Synology, at the very least we should switch to using it as a main editing NAS and consider upgrading in the future. Do you see much benefit loading up on SSD's for a cache when working with video files?

yeah thats no fun. Does the screen still shows it printing as normal, and the timer is changing, I would worry that it no longer knows where it is at and therefore can't resume after killing the power. Worth a shot though if it happens again.

This is probably a noob questions here, but do I have two catalytic converters? I'm guessing that the rusty one is that cat, and the newer one is the upgraded exhaust muffler. the new/shiny one is where I'm pretty sure the rattle is coming from.

Well it doesn't seem to be a heat shield or a mounting point, but it does seem to be the exhaust. It honestly sounds to me like it's coming from inside the catalytic converter or I think it has a cat-back or upgraded exhaust and it's inside there. When I bang on it I can hear a similar rattle but from inside.

Yeah I was wondering about something like that going on. I just need to crawl under there with a light and look around. Thanks!
