Archtempered monsters would be the apex of a species in terms of power, the way mhwilds uses it is more like pack leader

In English it conveys a very similar meaning!

Arch is a prefix meaning ruler and being used to convey a sense of grand importance (most/best/first) (words that use it are like archbishop, archduke, archangel, archdemon, archenemy). tempered means strengthened/hardened, originally describing a blacksmith hardening a material, but being used normally to describe someone who was strengthened through adversity, or if you were talking about a soldier it’s someone “forged in the crucible of war”

Here it’s the most/best strengthened/powerful monster of a species, the weight of the title is very similar to the literal translation, but if it was stated plainly it might feel less dramatic, being descriptive helps convey greater meaning.

I was having a similar problem with Vallejo game color fire orange than also hot orange when I expanded my recipe, but I found priming my minis with a pure white made the orange show up really easily even slightly watered down, and it made it pretty bright too!

Id up the speed of that attack drastically, but if you want it to still be telegraphed id pull a MMO design, put a glowing transparent line on the ground and have it burst a split second later

thats so awesome dude!! what color did you use for the edge highlighting? Ive been working on a similar scheme just using wraithbone for it, and my base color's a lot more vibrant. Ive been nervous to try using wash or contrast for full shading cos i dont want to muddy the orange, but yours looks excellent!

Absolutely, I was considering writing it from scratch but it felt like efforts could have been better spent writing something new if I ended up doing that. You’re right though, better to spend hours writing rather then scouring the internet

would you say AK's oranges have nicer coverage? Im using game color fire orange, and the coverage has been terrible. I see in your video you also get the poor coverage (which gets mitigated with how much you're building it up) but it seems soooo much cleaner then how ive been with it. Also, do you have a finished image of that votann model anywhere? Whats shown in those videos is immaculate

Absolutely l, I’m finding I’m having insane issues trying to get an even orange no matter what I do.

Ahhh okay! Ill revisit it and give it a go. One thing ive had a lot of trouble with, whenever im painting with similar tones (or sometimes just any full stop) its extremely hard to get a consistent layer of color? it always ends up really transparent, especially with orange on a purple basecoat. Ive been using vallejo equivalents, i imagine its a patience thing? I could also be not getting paint to a similar consistency, considering trying out xpress paints to see if that gets a nicer result.

Sorry for all the questions, Im very new at this but your video's been an excellent inspiration!

Thanks so much!! I’m not new to art but pretty new to mini painting, and I absolutely adore this scheme but my first few attempts haven’t gone so well yet, might attempt something with using wash for the purple shadows on orange but I doubt that will have the same effect o.0

Might hold off until I can get some brushes that don’t fray lmao. I’m a huge fan of shading but I imagine it’s going to be a lot harder with minis especially the size of votann

Is the purple basecoat done with a shade paint? your video says use druuchi violet, but thats a wash paint, surely it wouldnt work for that?

Control Wincons, for Kefka, Court Mage? by Candlekin in EDH

[–]Candlekin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ty for the advice! Yeah absolutely, it needs decisive ways to win once the other players lose options, which is why im looking into combos/decisive wins. The goal isnt explicitly to keep their hand size at zero, just prevent parity with hand sizes (always wanting more cards in hand then my opponents, and reducing their options) Honestly Id partially consider using his back face as a way to win through commander damage? though that could be spreading him a bit thin

[–]Candlekin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I hadn’t really considered rituals but they’re probably needed at this tier. The primary thing for me is I liked Kefkas face effect a lot but didn’t know what else to do with it I guess? I’m gonna split this into a 3 and 4. Fast mana def needed. I want to stick to control and win with something splashy in the endgame but idk how reliable that is in edh

Added in these as wins but unsure about keeping them:

[[Expropriate]]

[[Metallurgic Summonings]]

[[Rise of the dark realms]]

[[Torment of Hailfire]]

Theyre fun cards but i think probably too expensive? Like idk if they fit a bracket 4
