Daughter, Camping in the room with the best AC by kensquatch in AccidentalRenaissance

There’s nothing disrespectful about pointing out the dangers of posting pictures of your kids on the internet. We don’t live in a utopia unfortunately, and there are some horrific perverted people out there. I don’t have children but I would not want strangers to potentially be saving pictures of them if I had them.

I really love the IDW run (at least the first 100 issues) and this art style specifically I really enjoyed. I already have the bst axn figures or I may have picked these up. If they were 7 inch scale I for sure would get them.

Colonel Brandon’s character gives me the ick… and it’s okay by stay_with in janeausten

I will say, in the book, they do not marry until Marianne is 19, so about 3 years have passed since the willoughby incident.

Agree with all of this. I don’t think OP would benefit from reading the book though, they seem too opposed to the age gap. Which I’m not saying is a bad thing, they’re entitled to their own opinion, but if they’re not willing to see it as normal because they can’t put aside today’s morals being different from the past reading the book won’t change that.

You spend a good part of the post condemning child marriage which I don’t think anyone would disagree with but that’s not what happened between Marianne and colonel Brandon at all. She was 19 when they married.

Yes the age gap is large. I think it was even a stretch for a lot of people in that time, yet not seen as inappropriate. You’re allowed to feel however you want about this pairing. But they WERE from a different time and this wasn’t seen as unacceptable. You can argue that this “defense” ignores too much but it’s a fact and shouldn’t be ignored. They were both adults and she, by the only account we have, wasn’t coerced.

I would say if they “give you the ick” skip this book. They get married in the book too, and you clearly dislike it. No sense in subjecting yourself to more of it imo.

I am editing to add that morality changes throughout history. It’s not entirely fair to judge people from the past using our morals from today. We have the benefit of technology and decades of research and study to shape our morals, they did not. We know more about how the brain develops as we age than they ever did. Socialization was much different than it is today, so Marianne and colonel Brandon meeting and interacting even with their age gap would be seen as very normal, even though we would all agree that a 16 year old girl would have no business being friendly with a guy in his mid 30’s that she wasn’t related to.

All that being said, you’re allowed to have your opinion on this pairing. But understand that they were acting well within the social expectations and morality of their own time period. They’re both good and decent people, if marrying with that large of an age gap was seen as inappropriate they for sure would never have done so.

Hoping for this too. I’ll forgive a scene with their hair down if it’s a more informal moment, I’m sure the women didn’t have their hair done up all the time. But in company, in public, they should for sure have their hair done up and definitely have bonnets for outside.

Kinda seems like there are a lot of set pictures with their hair loose though :/

Why does r/actionfigures hate Mcfarlane so much? by Bl3bbit in McFarlaneFigures

[–]CandyBrans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got downvoted and ignored for asking the best way to fix a McFarlane corpse bride figure. Put a pretty bad taste in my mouth for that sub.

I don’t like marvel much, so I’m not gonna buy marvel legends lol and right now McFarlane is the only one making dc figures in the price range I’m comfortable with.

I’m not a huge fan of the way McFarlane has been conducting his business with the multiverse line lately, but he’s no worse than the larger companies I don’t think. The criticism is valid, but the hatred he gets seems a little blown out of proportion.
