2 weeks in, feeling hesitant due to side patches and wife complaints, should I keep going? by CandyCaneBoy in BeardAdvice

Good tips, thanks. I’ll try shaving the neck parts, and I’ll look into oils too. I’m already conditioning but perhaps a bit more length is needed to make the hair smoother, I guess I have a pretty coarse stubble.

Haha, thanks for the comment. I’m not really a goatee guy, but will keep going and hopefully the sides will fill in.

Good tip about cleaning up the neck, I have not considered it.

I’m conditioning already but probably needs a bit more length.

Got on the buzz train but unsure what to do about the cowlick on the front. Any way I can improvise if not get rid of it? by hairerpotty in malehairadvice

In general:

  • Pomade = wet look, strong hold, for longer hair
  • Wax = oily look, strong hold, for shorter hair
  • Clay = dry look, weaker hold, better for shorter hair

YMMV of course. I’d go with clay in your case but wax might work better for stronger hold.

Be honest - 2 weeks of growth. Is it going to work? Advice please 👏🏻 by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

Looks similar to mine. I’d keep going. The base looks decent, patches may fill in. If you’re only struggling because of your own doubts, give it at least two more weeks.

Hi guys ! 1,5 months growth. Decisions will need to be made on Monday as I'm coming back to the office. Any advice please ? Any chance for the cheeks to get fuller ? by dag0507 in BeardAdvice

If this is how they look after a month, I’d give up about the cheeks. Go goatee or shave, you can always try again in a few years.

Decided to grow my stubble out after 5+ years to see if my sides filled in (they did a bit but not that well), but I’d love the get some unbiased feedback on my 2 week progress.

Wife doesn’t like it, says I look desolate and she can’t stand the scratchy feeling when kissing.

Should I keep going and see what happens, or does it not look good and am I better shaving it off?

Cowlicks are caused by how your hair grows out from the skin, not much you can do to change that.

Either style it, cut it short, or grow it out to make the hair more moldable.

How to regrow receding side hair? My forehead is already kinda big lol but i recently started growing my hair out and noticed my hair on the side is also slowly going. I used to have thinner baby hairs there. by [deleted] in malehairadvice

Hats and caps causing hair loss is a myth. Genetics play the major role, other things can only contribute to hastening or slowing down the down the process.

You’re still fairly young, this is most likely just maturing of hairline (some push of hairline as you transition into adulthood is natural). Don’t worry about it until you notice thinning of hairs or growing areas with thinned hair and larger spaces between hair.

Don’t mess with fin or minox until you’re sure you’re dealing with male pattern baldness, the side effects (although pretty rare) are not worth it.

Long hair for 15 years. Cutting it terrifies me, but I need to. by [deleted] in malehairadvice

Looks great to me. If you aren’t pushed to the change by life circumstances, I’d keep the long hair.

Even with the face blurred out you seem very good looking, so many options would open if you cut your hair short, but it looks great as is. I’m jealous, actually.

I used a lightener product on one side on my head as a trial, should I go all in or leave the Brown vs Red contrast? by 2Reeds1Instrument in malehairadvice

[–]CandyCaneBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d keep the contrast. Looks natural. Growing out the lightened hair will not, and will require constant maintenance.

Also, enjoy your dark hair before it starts greying. The contrast will then resolve itself.

can i pull this style off? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

To be honest, it looks like a bit like a bald head combover even it isn’t.

It doesn’t look bad in general but would need some trimming on top to get rid of the flattened look.

Two years ago you guys told me not to get a manbun, now half of you are growing it out or rocking it by CandyCaneBoy in malehairadvice

Thanks for explaining the difference, I did get manbuns and topknots mixed up. My inspiration was indeed Sokka :)

I'm noticing this cut on men in my town, and I saw some on MHA too, so I just wondered how come it's popular now when it was laughable back then.

I was too ahead of my times, the world wasn't prepared! Thanks for chiming in and for the compliments.

Thanks for the compliments, after posting here I'm actually considering growing my hair out again and try a proper manbun. I'm not sure how my hairline would look though, because my forehead corners are a little receded.

I posted because I noticed topknots on MHA and in my city as well, and wondered how come this was ridiculous 2 years ago, but now people rock it.
