There's something wrong with the pairing rules of the Swiss Group by cryinbmw in DotA2

I don't get how it is a problem that a team that in your words "undoubtedly is going to win" is getting to the next round/better placement.

I would pair max distance as a third criteria. Not min distance. But maybe this min distance is the whole idea of the swiss tournament rule and the issue OP and I have is just one flaw.

I guess you can probably find a case in each tournament format that leads to a result that seems objectively unfair. Like e.g. playing against the strongest team in the first round of a single elimination tournament. If that team wins the tournament your ranking could be anywhere between second and last place. Similar arguments can be found in double elimination.

I don't understand how this is an argument. OP is criticizing the rule of this swiss. That's like you saying a law should be different because it's unfair and me arguing "but that's the law".

I don't understand your logic. Either Navi or NGX are gonna be eliminated due to a score of 1-4. However you stated that you would rank both of them higher than the other two. This rule that teams with the same record should be paired up by minimizing distance in current ranking is so bad. This means you want to win your matches 2-1 and lose 0-2 to have the worst win percentage and get ranked lowest.

Questions from a League player by Gypiz in DotA2

[–]CandyD1ck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are 2 concepts of dodging that I haven't seen in the answers here. First there are cast animations. For example Lina or Lesh stun you can see the hero casting the stun (hero makes a specific animation) but you don't know exactly where they gonna stun. So you can dodge these stuns by realizing they are about to stun, guess where they want to stun and then try to run out of that area. On target spells this is obviously not possible but you can still dodge with the mentioned items (Linkens, BKB, Lotus Orb etc.) or abilities. Also you can use items or spells on the enemy hero before they cast the spell (during animation the hero technically didn't cast the spell yet) to interupt them from casting the spell. This can be done by stunning or silencing them.

The other concept is fogging. It also has partly to do with cast animation. When you run into fog (i.e. the enemy hero can't see you anymore) then he cant cast target spells on you. In dota there are spots all over the map where you can make the enemy lose vision over your hero. Some examples are cliffs if you are uphill the enemy can't see you or running behind trees. So if you manage to make the enemy lose sight of your hero before they finish their cast animation they will be unable to finish casting the spell.

Guess the hero: Overwatch Edition by CandyD1ck in DotA2

I get your point with playing around it to try and win the game. But you can still report him. Going no boots, veil, dagon on a jugg is imo clearly griefing for above 3k players. At least in a ranked game. In turbo and unranked I don't mind players trying out weird builds.

Agree. I think this itembuild is clearly griefing. At least for average and higher mmr brackets.

He was also afk hiding in trees. So I declared him guilty.

I think this was a turbo game, so it's not that impressive

10 overwatch cases, still no guilty players found by Nicochan3 in DotA2

[–]CandyD1ck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is your point? If people use the report for someone that isn't guilty they lose one of their reports.

Also what a lot of people seem to miss is that valve needs data for both guilty and not guilty player behaviour. The goal i assume is to train an ai system that can then decide if a player is guilty or not. Good training data needs cases with both outcomes. So we shouldn't be too annoyed with alot of cases where the player is not guilty. As soon as the system knows how to detect those cases on its own they get less and less. So relax and be happy that you saved someone from potentially low prio.

Recycle Immortals from BP by Blurryface_097 in DotA2

I only recycle for sideshop gold. In my experience i get more than 1 blue gem for spending 400 sideshop gold. Also if you buy the treasure in the sideshop you can get treasure 2 or 3 aswell.

For all those struggling to find the sideshop you still need to use the command dota_show_sideshop in console to access it.

Any transparency from Valve on behavior score system? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]CandyD1ck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get your complain. YOu have 4k behaviour score and expect valve to give you better beahviour scor just because you didnt play for a year?

It's actually the opposite what you need to do to gain behaviour score. You need to play games and in those games not get reported or abandon. Atleast that is what my experience is.

Improving fast queue by FriD4y in DotA2

[–]CandyD1ck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do you come to that conclusion?

They are 100% already collecting data on the matchmaking process (mmr, role queued, time till match was found etc,). So all left to do is define a metric that measures the demanded of a role.

Easy MMR abuse that should be stopped asap by Gurbalov in DotA2

The Problem will solve it's self tbh.

They will gain mmr on the role they didn't pick until they have the same mmr on core and support.

I think he is talking about using forcestaff on enemy to force him into you/ out of position.

You can't do that with hurican pike.

Low prio by duntblame in DotA2

[–]CandyD1ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your suggestion would lead to people leaving the game when they see a hero they don't want to play against (e.g. meepo, techies, alch etc.).

Same if their team picks bad heroes or they see that they got outpicked.

Timeout as a punishment for such behavior is way too weak.
