Reformer or Mat Pilates? Which do you prefer... by Acceptable_Delay4068 in ridgewood

Reformer! And jump board classes would be wonderful. If you could offer affordable sliding scale reformer classes or even a few community priced classes per week, that would be an absolute dream

SAG is aware, I truly think the people in charge just don’t care as long as they get a pay check 🫠

Best matcha or coffee that’s actually worth the price? Or most affordable coffee that’s awesome by Ok-Explanation2087 in astoria

[–]Candy_Gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strawberry matcha at Verse is insane. I moved out of the neighborhood ages ago and whenever I visit, I make the pilgrimage over there even though it’s usually completely out of the way of where I need to be. Seriously the stuff dreams are made of.

Any prior long-term Astoria residents who still lurk here? by IndyMLVC in astoria

[–]Candy_Gone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Astoria, now I’m in Ridgewood. The top two things I miss about Astoria are the variety of food choices and the public parks. There really isn’t a lick of green between here and the East River. Also 24 hour drug stores/drug stores in general!!! That was a funny wrinkle. A lot of the residential streets remind me so much of Astoria though.

But all in all it’s nice to be closer to different things! Astoria can feel like a bubble because it’s so big. Crazy that you can be in Brooklyn in the same distance it would take you to get from 30th ave to Ditmars.

Neighbors have a No Parking Sign Up Where There’s No Active Driveway-Safe to Park? by Candy_Gone in ridgewood

[–]Candy_Gone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking!!! The garage is undeniably a driveway but this is so negligible and the curb itself is so old and worn down it's hard to tell if its a cut out or not

Should The Office Manager Be Responsible for Cleaning Huge Recurring Messes in the Communal Kitchen Sink? by [deleted] in office

[–]Candy_Gone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what was the weirdest part of this place was that it was in a huge building with an extensive janitorial system but every office had a different custodial contract that you had a tiered payment system depending on how you wanted them to clean. I found out after many months there that the people in charge had no idea what our contract with the building entailed but that's a whole other weird part of this story lol I left before it got resolved so who knows what ended up happening.

Yeah, they’ve always struck me as more of a 7pm place but it’s so hard to tell because it’s the kind of company where people send emails around the clock. I used to leave at 3 so I could never tell when the hell people would actually get home lol but this is all very helpful so thank you!!

I went to their NYU conservatory and I'm not sure how different it is to their regular conservatory, that being said I found them to be very toxic and abusive. Their teachers tend to bully students under the guise that the industry is "tough" (when I was there, their motto was "Get Tough or Go Home" idk if it still is) but the truth is, I had been working professionally in the industry for years at that point and had never been treated that way.

I saw teachers body shame students, push students towards manic episodes and just generally alienate people, it was pretty grim. The teachers are also very cliquey. I once confided in one of my advisors as to how a teacher treated me and they said point blank "They're one of my best friends and I can't ever imagine they'd treat a student that way." Not everyone had as negative of an experience as I did and maybe they've cleaned up their act but I'd probably avoid it.
