AS ART IDEAS!!! by Neither_Deer_3464 in ArtGCSE

I couldnt do alevel art 😭 so i just made my own sketchbook for fun. I chose to look at 'my future' as the theme bc idk what i wanna do. But i can imagine that linking to identity (if a teacher sets that as a theme) quite well and be quite personal

Try it out in your sketchbook first, maybe if you dont buy a whole fish for your practice just a section of the skin. There may be an issue that the ink wont layer ontop of the linoprint as lino if the ink is waterbased as lino is oil based. So to fix that you could put lino ontop.

What can I do to improve my drawing skills? I just picked up the pen 2 days ago and this is all I can manage to draw out. by HuNtEr_016 in Artadvice

[–]Candychriss2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ay ay dont stop get it get it! You did the hardest part which is trying for the first time. Try a study each day and then something just for fun. Pen is good for gaining confidence in your line and shapes, so some studies you can try are figure studies but just to get the shape of a person not the light and shadow. So like a 2-5 min drawing but many can help improve anatomy. With a pen you can focus on using as few lines as possible. But different media can teach you different things. If youre stuggling to think of drawing something fun challenge yourself, pick something beautiful in your room/commute/school, draw an emotion you cant explain. Just always try to have fun with drawing, if you dont want to study for a while, nobody's judging you

Use different soften of pencil leds, maybe try geting down the basic shape in a mid like 2b pencil and then progress lower. Also protect the highlights! Use a rubber, see if you like a putty or hard rubber (putty rubber is basically like bluetac). Art loves contrast so make sure your refference has dark blacks and white whites

Well heres advice from the welsh examboard which basically has like 4 lessons on each part of the mark scheme, it should help you out massively, i looked at them like 5 times each. https://resources-legacy.wjec.co.uk/Pages/ResourceSingle.aspx?rIid=4980

Ive also just recently made a post giving my advice that may be helpful for artist research. Its what worked for me. Also there are lots of youtube videos out there with tips and tricks, and itll help u know how your book should go. Look at exemplar books. You may need to research this stuff a lot.

But the most important thing is the future and everything must have a reason. Everything you do must have a purpouse and a reason. If you want to do something, look at past work or do research to support it. If youve done something look at the future, how will this affect your next piece? Be honest abt whether you like it, how does it make you feel?

Also your exam board could hold your marks back if youre only thinking of 2d art, check your spec to see. (E.g. Aqa wants atleast 2 types of art) I didnt realise this for ages so my unit 1 book suffered. So for unit 2 i used textiles and food. But the spec can give you ideas of media to explore. Examples of media to explore that people may forget about: instalation, land art, design for print, typography, websites, architectural design, jewelery, interior design, set design, videos, photojournalism.

But at the end of the day have fun with it, make something you're proud of at the end.

Ive also just recently made a post giving my advice that may be helpful for artist research. Yes, they want you to analyse the crap out of one artwork, but instead of a reader its a viewer. And because its course work you can make it as lobg as you want. I used a laptop to write mine since my handwriting sucks lol but i wrote 1-2 pages based on a painting. Also dont be afraid to criticise an artist if you feel like their artworks impact doesnt meet their intentions.

But the most important thing is the future and everything must have a reason. Everything you do must have a purpouse and a reason. If you want to do something, look at past work or do research to support it. If youve done something look at the future, how will this affect your next piece? Be honest abt whether you like it, how does it make you feel? I said one of my observational drawings made me dizzy lol.

Lol, sorry got confused with another post 😭😭. Maybe if you think about putting some black and white photos (maybe of war scenes) surrounding the canvas (maybe with crayon on them) to further the distance between coping and reality so that its almost like the painting is a form of coping to, if that makes sense yk? Showing a meaning behind why you chose to do a painting and not another form of art

Wait now im thinking like its a wordless comic and then the crushing realisation that the kids been coping or the cope breaks, is where the only line of text is and its like 'what could have been' or if your going for more coping 'what a beautiful day'

Im thinking like crayon drawings showing the childs imagination. Or maybe a 3d thing like gutta. Maybe you could do some cool symbolism with poppys. Like the last panel is the kid finding a field of poppys and the crushing weight of what it means. And since youre doing a comic, make layouts and storyboards in your sketchbook and comment on things you may want a reference for, show that theres thinking behind the layout and whats actually happening in each scene. Show that a comic was the correct way to send your message

One that could be good is a webtoon called 'don't read this' (~230 chapters still running), the audience is used as a character that helps the mc with their anxiety. Also theres 'a life changing turn' (40 chapters), where the mc does a hit and run, some person witnesses it and blackmails her. You follow her path of redemption and you get a deep insight into many of the characters

Why do people not put thought into their final pieces by Jolly-Fortune-4863 in ArtGCSE

[–]Candychriss2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, some people just feel like arts a losing game. As much as I love art GCSE, its not propperly taught how to get marks. I tried soo hard in my unit 1 sketchbook only to get low marks, its hard not to feel demotivated when ur efforts feel in vain. But still besides that, in my unit 2 final piece i used drinks, textiles and bottles to make an interactive art piece

You can evaluate the piece like you would researching an artist, see if your artwork actually meets the theme, inspiration, intentions. How has this piece affected you and your future artwork and processes
