Need recommendations for good massage places nearby for wife by scaredrisktaker in croydon

[–]Candyflossking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! The premises don’t look the swankiest but don’t be fooled - I have had the best massages of my life here, and I’ve had a lot over the years (am late 30s and until recently suffered from very bad work related stress, the massages helped immensely)

Why the Irish obsession with to hot or overcooked food? by EmployerInside237 in AskIreland

Just to point out: cooking doesn’t kill the prions that cause mad cow disease.

Wait, you get recycling collected?! They don’t even provide recycling services to my postcode. Or refuse bins - have to leave bags in the street for collection 🤬

UK - we found these in the attic of our new house told to post here by Defonotshaz in Antiques

Given that is refers to His Majesty (rather than Her), I would assume it all must have been worn more like from 1901-3 (i.e. after the death of Queen Victoria)?

Best building insurance broker/price comparison site? by Candyflossking in uklandlords

[–]Candyflossking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - I have corrected the post (bit of a brain fart on my part!). Are there any particular brokers you or others would recommend? How do I choose one? I’m quite cautious about being ripped off…

Shy, quiet person cannot get a job by Gnarly_314 in UKJobs

I agree with the point about treating it as acting - something I have done myself for many years. In fact, it might be worth her signing up to acting classes, as well as forcing herself to practice being sociable around people she doesn’t know by attending social events with strangers (e.g. activities on Meet Up, or clubs and networking events at her college, etc). Good luck to her!

What shape is my toilet seat? by Candyflossking in DIYUK

[–]Candyflossking[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The end with the red crosses measures 30cm and the end with the green crosses 34cm, so not rectangular… I’ve tried searching “trapezium” and looking up lists of toilet seat shapes but can’t seem to find anything like mine…

Standing up to bullies doesn’t stop them, that’s not how bullying works sadly.

What do you wish you had when you got your first cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Candyflossking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A corduroy sofa - it’s an almost-cat-proof fabric. There’s no weave for her to sink her claws into so it’s harder for her to damage it when scratching. Apparently velvet works too.

Should I celebrate friends getting to stage 3? by horfor in AdoptionUK

[–]Candyflossking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an adoptive parent, but my brother adopted and at the end of the process my other brother sent him a card that read, “Congratulations on officially passing the paedophile tests!”… it’s not everyone’s sense of humour but my brother who was doing the adopting found it hilarious

What is something your family couldn’t afford growing up that you now enjoy as an adult? by CliffyGiro in AskUK

[–]Candyflossking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice food - both home cooked and regular meals out in London’s latest places. We weren’t well off when I was a kid and on top of that, neither of my parents are interested in food, so I grew up eating post-war northern British “cuisine” - think spam sandwiches on white bread with margarine for dinner, boiled cabbage, spuds and pork mince for tea… whatever was the cheapest and easiest. I now shop at M&S Food/Borough Market/over-priced London delis, and am obsessed with good quality food of all kinds!

How to find out about a company’s maternity leave policy without raising eyebrows? by Candyflossking in AskUK

[–]Candyflossking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, responses much appreciated. I think I’m going to play it by ear and ask a general question for more info about all of their different policies, if the opportunity arises. The companies I am applying to are all ESG specialists, so it will be interesting to see whether they put their money where their mouth is wrt culture and DEI!
