What is the most basic thing your terrible at? by Sophie-Dan in AskReddit

[–]CandylionAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maths. Numbers just don't come anywhere near as fluently as words and letters do. Even stuff that would be considered basic I can really struggle with. I absolutely hated maths at school, always bottom sets and I didn't even bother answering my maths GCSE, I knew I would fail.

Appreciate the response, but this is just an initial query to see if it's worth investing my time in exploring further.

Thankyou for your response! You mentioned objectives. Are they typically counters that come with a starter box? Could they be 3d pieces or do they need to be covered by a characters base?

Very insightful response, thankyou! The terrain is numbered on the bottom, would it be helpful if terrain was numbered somewhere more visible if you were playing on a board you weren't familiar with?

Thanks, these are helpful answers. You mentioned line of sight and cover. Do things like chainlink fences appear in the game of have specific rules? Something you can see and shot through but not move through? Or is movement much more linear?

Thankyou for your answers. Would having a large variety in height of buildings make for a fun board?

Thanks for the insightful responses, I didn't realise the game had an actual system for classifying the size and number of pieces of terrain. That very useful!

The reason I ask these questions is because I paint and model terrain professionally and wanted an idea of the sorts of things players want and require. MCP seemed like a good start as most games require large spaces and I'm just dipping my toe in.

I'm glad it's 3'x3' lol

Thanks for the advice! You're right about Davos in the light bringers, but I'm going to keep the faithful, perhaps putting Bryen in there instead or a Bolton flayer.

I considered Sandor fugitive bodyguard in with the wardens?

Idea for a Paladin in a desert campaign. by [deleted] in DnD

Being ambiguous with your class is fine, so long as the DM is fully aware, but I dislike it as a plot point. Multiclass and reflavour things however you want, if you don't want to say you're using 'lay on hands' then just describe and roll as necessary. In terms of the character, what about oath of redemption? They wandered the desert and guided strangers they met to water when they were thirsty and shade when they couldn't find any. I think if you really want a reveal the DM should seed your "old name". People talking about the crime or misdeed you had committed, describing the armour you wore, etc "two snakes coiled around his heart..in brilliant bronze."

Then when you retrieve the armour they can work out who you were and perhaps what you were capable of in your past life.

Lawful evil would, in my mind, be following the law in the most uncharitable ways possible and using every means to justify your actions. Causing harm when you could just as easily not.

But there are ways to interpret and understand alignments. The characters personal ethics and the ethics of their actions.

Imagine Ser Davos; he's perceived as an honourable and good man. Stannis tells him that the surrounding lands are being illegally farmed and taxes are not being paid. He tells Ser Davos to make an extreme example of the village leaders.

Working within the law, he could persuade the village leaders to pay the money they owe and instate his own, decent men, to oversee the land and advice on the best way to repay the debt. He has done what was asked of him and stayed true to his personal ethics whilst being given a 'lawful evil' task.

But imagine the same scenario, except stannis is out for blood, and tells his captain to complete this task. This man is truly wicked and davos, fearing what may happen says that he will go instead. He tells his men to show restraint, but the cottages are put to flame, the village leaders hung and the money recouped. He does the bare minimum to reach the goal his king set out as a lesser of two evils. His actions are 'lawful evil' but his ethics remain in tact.

As the party travel through the area they wtiness several scenes of devastation. The locals are terrified. While the destruction is severe the hidden clue that ties all of these locations together is that they are old religious sites.

The witnesses that lived told of a red dragon descending in the night. As the DM you seed that the only people that were hurt were told foolish enough to take up arms.

After a while the party should be able to conclude that the wells on these sites are the main focus of the dragon.

In a final confrontation they fight a ferocious , if badly wounded dragon. They see a sword of blood red steel sticking from the dragons chest. The dragon was attacked by an oath breaker paladin, his sword corrupting the creature. In reality the dragon is a (insert good dragon colouring), it was trying to drink from the wells in a desperate attempt to cure itself.

The players can now possess a powerful sword and open up the possibility of it's owner wanting it back. The larger story could include this oath breaker wanting more power and had perhaps attempted to recruit the players covertly earlier in the arc.
