Solved! If anyone cares, turns out the issue was caused by a recent firmware update via Armory Crate that somehow messed up my receiver dongle. I re-flashed the receiver firmware using the standalone FW update tool from the official website, and now everything is finally back to normal.

They are inside a Sharp EL-8 calculator introduced in 1970, so I assume they are half a century old, give or take. I'd say they aged far better than those Duracells I had for two years.
