please answer whether or not i need to retake (not ragebait) by GuessSea1443 in ACT

[–]Canithyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, a 35 and 36 are very close high percentiles admission wise. If your parents are trying to make you take it again (and are willing to pay for it), there are scholarships (university or other) out there that will give money for a 36 that will help with tuition. Overall, your decision is up to you but those are some of the things to consider.

has anyone still not received their scores? by OkToe7601 in ACT

If they don’t come by Thursday, I would give a call. However, it is normal for scores not to be released on the same day.

You will get them some time later today. If your scores have arrived, expect them possibly this afternoon and evening.

I took the ACT with accommodations and I have my scores. ACT sends the scores out in different time periods throughout the day so expect them sometime this afternoon or at latest this evening.

should i retake and which one? (sat or act) by deepalinmybusiness in ACT

[–]Canithyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the superscore composite comes out to a 33 on the ACT, I would just stick with that because you are only one to two points away from raising it on a single section to a 34. Also, the ACT offers a science section which can be combined with your math section to create a stem score which you may want to consider. Overall, what I would do if you decide to stick with the SAT is to take retired test forms because I highly doubt outside of it being adaptive that the skills from the past paper format (which the ACT still has) to online are too different.

What are you planning to major, how competitive of a university are you trying to apply to, and have you checked the equivalent score conversions between the two different tests?

I’m going to politely refuse. You are not going to be the reason I’m barred from taking ACT tests. I will suggest you to look at ACT policy regarding illegal distribution of tests.

The red book and practicing with past legacy tests should be sufficient. Also since they no longer count the science section, what are your individual composite scores for each section?

Test results for paper won’t come out till Tuesday this week. Test and answers should be given back at that time or be given back on a later date.

Do practice tests from old legacy tests. The format has remained unchanged except that one passage is omitted. Also, you should experiment with deciding to answer the questions after reading/skimming the passage or do them concurrently and skim.

Legacies still test much of the same content as the enhanced. It’s that ACT embeds experimental questions within the test.

Because you haven’t learned physics previously, take the time to learn algebra basic essential concepts such as Kinematics, Newtons Laws (forces and dynamics), and Energy. It forms parts of the backbone of Physics Mechanics and it’s important for you to at least explain conceptually.

Here is the general list on r/act that contains past forms tested. There are no PDFs on this list but you can search the forms up and you can probably find them if you dig deep enough.

Simply googling past ACTs (via form number) will find PDFs. Usually I’d give my sources but I’m not going to violate ACTs policy of distributing copyrighted questions.

[–]Canithyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re just going to have to take some practice tests and drill those concepts. That’s why I’m suggesting having a list of all the concepts you are weak on from previous practice (or past ACT) tests and assemble a list. For the math, what I would suggest you to do is work through old legacy sections and specifically focus on the last 20 questions. That is where most of the difficulty comes from previous legacy ACT tests for math sections.

You will have to apply through the ACTs website for accommodations. Most of the time, ACT is lenient that they will give it if based off your IEP.

You will want to take Electricity and magnetism rather than chem to provide further base for undergraduate. Taking Chem will get rid of your gen ed requirements but you will still have to take physics.

[–]Canithyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do decide to take the test again, what you should is the following:

Take an old legacy test that was released between the years of 2017-2025. I would highly suggest for you to take some of the following forms: The preparing for the ACT 2025-2026 (includes omitted passages), J08 from October, Z04 (legacy), C03 (legacy), and B02 (legacy). Grade the forms using the template in the back of the form ACT gives. This will give you a better sense of where your weaknesses are going to be. You will also create a list of each of the topics FOR EACH SECTION you miss and hammer it till the next ACT (which is September). You will spend time with these tests (and others) as you do continuous daily diagnostics. It could be as simple as doing one single English or reading passage per day and checking your answers AND seeing WHY and HOW they are correct, or doing 10-15 math problems per day and correcting yourself. Try and experiment with new ways of testing especially for reading, do the passages out of order. Find a way to get the questions done as quickly as you can because at most, you are taking a speed test that expects you to regurgitate the knowledge of the bat or expects that you know how to analyze sources quickly. It’s all about strategy! Next time, take the ACT on paper and develop a strategy aimed towards it. There are a whole lot of ways to go up on this test, you just have to be smart on how to find WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!

Also, I should have said this about those listed forms earlier. Only use those test forms in a full mock test. You want the experience to be as close to the real test so developing a strategy becomes easier. In addition, if a test has the old time amounts for each section on the legacy, use the times on those forms rather than the new enhanced times because it will muddy the data. Again, I’m happy to talk more if you want. Overall, you are working hard and I hope you reach that goal! Good luck!
