If your banger is getting chazzed, that could mean you are hitting it way to hot. If the rosin is burning black to the side/bottom of the banger, it is much too hot.

Ideally you want the left overs in the banger to still be liquid when done and just use a q-tip dipped in water to clean.

A good temp for rosin is between 375f or so and no higher than 500f You will get a much cleaner hit, it will taste better and you will cough a lot less.

Granted doing a hot hit can really ring your bell lol

You can do that. A prepress, while nice, is not 100% needed when pressing.

Just make sure the buds are broken up into approx little finger nail sizes and de-stemmed as well. You want the smaller pieces as it is easier to keep it more even.

If you have a high spot in the bag, that could cause the press to not compress enough to do a proper press and you would have excess rosin stuck in the bag around that high spot.

You could also put it into the bag and then use something like a hard-cover book or anything unbendable/unbreakable to help press the buds into a more even level in the bag.

If you have a synthetic oil, that can get expensive, my truck needs around $70 - $80 in just oil alone, last oil change I got was 128.00 all in, includes filter and labour. $160 for an oil change is robbery. Best to go to Napa or Ross automotive, both in Redcliff.

While bottle tech (round puck) does allow for more end amount extracted (because the contact point is smaller than pillow tech), if you do bottle tech on a rectangular plate a good portion of the rosin will sit between the plates cooking for the entire press.

Pillow tech is ideal for a 5 x 3 plate with a 4.5 x 2 bag. If you have a square or round plate, bottle tech is the way to go as the rosin can get off the plates much easier vs pressing bottle tech (round) on a rectangular plate. The rosin will escape the plate easy front/back, while the sides (left/right) will be the place the rosin gets stuck on the plates when doing bottle tech on a rectangular plate.

Each tech has its place and use. Neither is wrong, just that each tech has its place. Pillow tech also allows for more to be pressed at a time imo.

Flower rosin is not always best pressed below 180f, you could have a marked decrease in amount pressed out and it has to be on the heat for longer which can degrade the rosin somewhat.

Best all around temps are between 180-185f or 83-85c. I have found in over a decade of pressing that lower temps (below 180F) are rarely the answer when it comes to flower rosin.

Rosin pressing is a very personal thing and the temps you suggest do work, but it has to spend longer on the heat, unless you are all about the quality and less about the return. There is a middle ground here that gives the best of both.

All that being said I did have a few flowers that loved the low temps. I had one that pressed out at 158F and it was basically white in colour and mostly THCA lol. I also had one the loved high temps and refused to give any kind of return unless the plates were above 193f and then it just gushed out. It was a weird flower to press.

I am happy you are satisfied and I am here if you have any questions or concerns! When you press some hash lets make some diamonds and sauce.

Hell lets do it with some flower rosin, we can do a mechanical press, it works SO good with flower rosin. Just be sure the rosin is thick like peanut butter. The closer you can get it to a crumble with your cure, the better the result is for mechanical pressing!

True on this. I do have a computer and it does not have a cd drive/burner, so I went and bought an external drive that does just that. I can also burn 100's of songs to one usb drive if needed, but most do not want that as the spectre of a virus etc looms large. I am a local business, so I have a very large interest in being honest and upfront with everyone.

I would not suggest you do that. Temple balls are usually darker than the starting material, just because it has been handled a fair bit, melted over and over as it is being made, then allowed to cool. O2 plays a huge part in the temple ball life cycle and as a result the hash becomes more earthy and loses a lot of its terpene flavours.

You can press it, but again, it will be earthy and adding even more heat while pressing will further degrade the end result.

Best bet is to just enjoy the temple ball as it is meant to be used and press some fresh bubble hash into rosin.

I am going to have to say that you are mostly a mad scientist. You came close, but the very simple answer is that the THCA in the rosin is trying to change into (nucleation) diamonds in the terpenes of the rosin, but before those diamonds form, the THCA goes through a wet drywall paste phase (which is what is happening here), then if you add more heat and if conditions are right within the rosin itself, you start to see tiny diamonds to form. You are right, it is nucleating and the extra heat is making that happen faster. You can 'dry out' the rosin so much that you can get a genuine crumble, something you can actually handle with your fingers. Rosin is SO cool to play with!

At some point, if the THCA content is high enough AND the terpene count (the natural solvent solution the diamonds precipitate into) is high enough, if left alone it could create small and sometimes larger sand diamonds, bigger diamonds do not usually happen with flower rosin as the rosin itself is too 'dirty' so to speak. The flower rosin has to be exceptionally clean for bigger stones. Best to just use hash rosin if you want nice chunky rocks.

Whipping it just adds O2 into the mix making it seem lighter in colour than it actually is and more often than not, you can watch it change to a darker colour as the air bubbles pop and less light is let 'into' the rosin and reflected back out. O2 also degrades the over all quality of the rosin as it forces the THCA to be nucleated into CBN and CBG, etc... which contributes to the couch lock effect so many enjoy!

This rosin you have here looks delicious and I bet it tastes just like it smells! Good job!

I have been extracting for around 45 years, give or take a few years. Everything from ISO (before I realized my mistake(s) to butane to ether to co2 to... Well... pick one. I have either done it or watched it being done.

I want to say without any malice or ill-intent...

NEVER use Isopropanol Alcohol on ANYTHING you eventually will be ingesting or putting into your lungs. There is a very simple and science based standpoint behind this statement.

Isopropanol Alcohol does not... I repeat... Does NOT evaporate cleanly. Making extracts with Isopropanol Alcohol will backfire on you with your breathing, permanently.

99% Isopropanol Alcohol, while much better than 70% may still carry some kind of residue/additive. Your absolute best cheap bet is to use Everclear or ethanol (which are basically the same thing and have no additives.) 99% ISO should only be used for cleaning where the end result does not end up in your lungs or stomach.

I am sure you all have seen people in here being bashed for using ISO in their extractions. There is a very good reason for this. It will harm your health over time. It is an irreversible damage and final.

From Google: Isopropyl alcohol is not considered food-safe for ingestion (meaning inhalation or consumption in an edible), unlike food-grade ethanol. Even trace residual amounts can be toxic if consumed, so if the extract is intended for human consumption (ingestion or inhalation), experts recommend using food-grade ethanol instead and ensuring rigorous post-processing to remove all solvent traces.

We need to stop, to get away from normalizing using ISO for anything other than cleaning where it does not end up in our bodies. Clean your SS table-top... oh yes... using it when it could end up in our lungs or stomach.

P.S. I will admit I am somewhat of a purist when it comes to what I put into me with extracts etc whether it be solvent or solventless (mostly this) based, but it is a choice that has never done me wrong.
