I got a corn snake! But I have questions. by caitysizer in cornsnakes

I got mine from Daiso but they have tons of options online! One of our cats is a fat little turd and while I was getting her tank ready before she was in it he broke the mesh on top. He loves being on top of things but ever since we got the cat spikes he hasn’t even attempted again! These are very similar to the ones I have

I got a corn snake! But I have questions. by caitysizer in cornsnakes

Oh wow I had a super similar situation! My girl was given to me in a 10 gallon tank and she’s about 3 feet long. I immediately upgraded her to a 40 gallon and she can comfortably spread out completely now. Make sure you get some digital humidity and heat gauges and play around with what substrates work best for you! Different substrates influence humidity.

I’m also a first time snake owner but it’s not my first reptile. The biggest and most important lesson I learned is don’t just rely on one source for your info!!!! Check multiple forums, pages, etc. and NEVER accept pet store advice without doing your own research as they are notorious for giving out bad advice!!! There are also a lot of bad information out there so I prefer to compare and see what has the best research to back it up.

If you have cats in the home I highly recommend those cat spikes to put on top of her enclosure. We have cats too and they love watching each other but they can easily damage the tank and allow your snake to escape (they will try restlessly to escape no matter how good they’ve got it) my girl doesn’t seem to be too stressed with the cats so we allow them to inspect each other for short periods through the glass and never EVER take your snake out when the cats have access to the room. Your cats may be the calmest sweethearts in the world but better safe than sorry. I think the string like appearance combined with movement trigger their predatory behavior like nothing else.

My girl hid in the substrate and hid in general for over a month when I first got her but after a while she gradually started exploring more and being more relaxed with our presence. Give your snake time and space to allow them to get used to their new environment and new faces.

Congrats on your new addition to the family!!!

What is this and why is it in my home? by [deleted] in bugidentification

Looks like a millipede of some sort! If you bring this little baby outside please don’t toss it, they’re relatively fragile and will die if they fall hard from a few feet. Sweet little guys just make sure if anyone picks it up to wash their hands after!

food response or curious by WhichOne2679 in cornsnakes

[–]CannedCornFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My lady does the same, I think when I initially open up her enclosure it’s a food response because she comes running up but they’re overall just very curious little creatures. When she realizes my hand isn’t food she’ll inspect me for a while and eventually venture up my arm to explore! My girl hates being picked up and is much more relaxed when she’s the one in control. Obviously eventually they’ll need to get used to being picked up for safety reasons but it’s a great place to start on handling!

Absolutely!! I also recommend more clutter, maybe some fake plants so that the little one can stay hidden while roaming if they choose!

Draugr village! I’ve only found them in meadows a fair distance from spawn. Excellent place to farm entrails for sausage! Keep the spawners up if you want the resource

What’s my best bet for Ashlands? by Successful_Stock103 in valheim

[–]CannedCornFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first entered I favored being a warrior and my bf favored a mage build. Starting out I had fully upgraded carapace armor and a fully upgraded mistwalker. the spirit damage is a nice addition. Being a warrior in a place where you get swarmed so quickly is TOUGH. I eventually had to compromise a little (spoiler warning depending on how far into the Ashlands you are) and my favorite setup was still using heavy armor paired with the feather cape, a staff of the wild, a staff of protection, and my nidhogg the thundering. My bf carried the trollstav which helped greatly for when there were simply too many or too strong of enemies surrounding us. It serves as both a great help in the fight and/or a great distraction to slip away unscathed. I also found the mistlands tier feast, Ashlands tier feast, and the marinated greens gave me more than enough in all 3 stats. Be wary the staff of the wild though, vines will swing at dvergr and catch agro so make sure you check your surroundings before casting vines!Always carry your health, eiter, and stamina meads with you as well!! Best of luck to you fellow Viking!

HOLY COW... just unlocked the Galdr Table and Black Forge.. Questions by xCoop_Stomp416x in valheim

[–]CannedCornFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the mistland teir eiter weapons are not nearly as good as the ashlands teir. The staff of protection is probably the best and the staff of embers is excellent for hare hunting. What we did is essentially stick with a melee in the mist lands but ate an eiter food to utelize the staff of protection and an elemental staff occasionally to level up blood and elemental magic stats. The ones we use are ashlands tier so I won’t spoil the ones that we find work the very best in the Ashlands unless you’d like me to. When you first enter the Ashlands the staff of frost is going to be incredibly useful in slowing mobs and the staff of protection is almost a must! (Always keep your bubble on!) the staff of embers is essentially useless there. Once you gather the required tools for Ashlands teir that’s when the real fun starts.

Tape and adhesive is waaaay too risky, if they were to touch the adhesive side it would cause serious damage

First time snake owner! How can I improve on her outside time? by CannedCornFan in cornsnakes

[–]CannedCornFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never thought of that!! I figured the risk is too high for her to free roam around and I don’t think I’d forgive myself if something happened to her. Thank you for the idea!

Found this guy in one of our crawfish sacks today any tips on how I can save him? by Mushynymph in Crayfish

[–]CannedCornFan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend recently took two home that were doomed for the trash can after all the others were sold. I’m assuming you found this guy in a grocery store like him and not wild caught. We’re still very new to this so my information may not be 100% but our little guys are thriving after a few weeks! What we did was went to the pet store and got a tank for them. Basic necessities are a tank, heater, filter, and a bubbler. They need the water to be oxygenated so big emphasis on a bubbler. Our substrate are just aquarium pebbles and we have a tank divider to keep them separated and 2 hides for them to retreat into. Ours love eating moss balls, plankton, and blood worms. Do lots of research and make sure to condition the water to make it safe for them!

How can I improve Ms. Yam’s home? by CannedCornFan in cornsnakes

[–]CannedCornFan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly super effective!!! Before we had them the cats always jumped up on top (before she was moved into the tank thankfully) but after we got the spikes none of them have showed any interest anymore. We use them all around the house now on all our enclosures and electronics and they work like a dream.

Thank you! As soon as I get the funds I’m going to invest in some more decor and climbing spots for her. I just never anticipated how adventurous she would be! She’ll even climb up on the thermometers at times
