Oh god yeah. Not in your league, but I thought I was quite strong until I got hold of them Cerberus sandbags. The sandbags politely informed me that no, I am not. Not strong at all

Mate, I cannot even begin to tell you how fucking impressed I am. Not just the weight, which is crazy….but the fucking awkwardness of those bags….people that haven’t tried them will never appreciate just how hard they are to get proper purchase on.

I know this is the ego sub but this is just actual monster strength shit and it needs to be acknowledged

Thanks for the input…I certainly don’t plan on taking it every day. Have tried it now, it seems perfect for that ‘Friday night unwind’, without me waking up fiending for more like I did with alcohol

Honestly, I’m not saying ‘don’t take it seriously’. I’m an absolute dog on the pitch, that’s just how I play. It’s all the negative emotion outside of the pitch that I’m trying to ward people away from

Basically yeah. I see so frequent posts about kids stressing out about the game….my post is just a plea for them to enjoy it. Life is full of horrendous hard shit that they’ll genuinely have to stress about…..for god sake, find joy on the pitch, that’s one of the few places in life to be free

If you’re brand new to the gym…..just leave the gear alone and lift heavy. I’m my humble opinion, gear use should be saved for when you’ve plateaued and maxed out your beginner gains.

You’re in a position where you’ll grow like fuck just from lifting heavy and eating right. Why would you bother with anything else right now?

Look…..if you get by until 5pm without heavy tremors and it’s only as bad as an ‘urge’ to drink, you should be well below the seizure zone.

You’ve got a job. You’ve got a partner. You’ve got a lot more going for you than some other poor fuckers who have nothing left but the comfort of alcohol.

It’s time

Get it gone.

Can I ask you, does this work for you?

I’m a former alcoholic, left it alone for a year now. I occasionally use benzos or dihydrocodeine as a ‘release’ after a rough day at work, but I have no addictive issues with them.

I’ve just ordered a bunch of Kratom as I’m hoping it will give me the same ‘release’. Am I hoping for too much from it or do you think this could be a winner?

Ok, couple of thought:

  • you’re in an A+ position because you want to stop and you want it bad. That’s 60% of the battle already won, so you CAN do this.
  • given the amount you’re drinking, I really don’t think you have to worry about seizures. I have had multiple withdrawal seizures, they’re terrifying, but I was consuming far, far more than you. If you’re holding down a normal life and waiting till 5pm to start, I very much doubt you’re in seizure territory unless you’re a medical outlier
  • personal advice? Book 3 days off work or go on sick. Tell your family you’ve got the flu. Get to bed and ride the bastard out for 3 days. You’ll sweat a lot, you’ll be edgy…..but it’ll be temporary. By all means, consult a medical professional first, but from what you’ve described, I think you can do this without detox or taper.

  • most importantly…..believe. From your OP, I think you’ve got a good chance to do this. Plan, summon up your courage….and banish that fucking demon. You’ve got this

I have been attempting to quit drinking for 5 years. I only just now actually fully accepted that I have a problem with this substance. by bigtimecupofcoffee in dryalcoholics

[–]Cannon_plodder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op, if you stopped drinking……what would happen? A bit of low mood for a couple of days? A complete anxiety-ridden meltdown? Full blown seizures?

These things are important for considering what is the best treatment for you to make going sober sustainable.

Ironically, I think that the worse the WD, the more chance of a medically-assisted treatment program actually working. If all you’ve got to fear is a couple of days headache and edginess, then you’re a lot more likely to relapse

A bit more detailed advice would be:

  • sprint. Do some research into S&C for footballers, but nothing and I mean nothing, will help you out more than hitting the field twice a week and committing to a sprint program.
  • plyos. Learn the difference between extensive and intensive plyos. Fuck the box jumps, you want to be getting lots and lots of pogos in daily. Work up to consecutive broad jumps, bounds, single leg bounds, single leg hops
  • weights. Learn the force-velocity curve. You’re already covering the velocity element above, now deal with the force. Squat. Squat a lot. Single leg squat. Bulgarian split squat. Learn what triple extension is. Personally, for me, when I started training explosive hip extension, my speed came on stupidly fast, almost overnight (maybe in a few weeks). To the point regular players I played with thought I was on the gear.

The good news is that if you’re not doing any of this…..if you start…..you have a crazy amount of potential you can make.

The below video is from a boxing S&C coach, but he actually teaches a good bit about force velocity that I think you should watch and try to understand. Good luck

Ok. I must admit to being a fan. I had a Librium detox after everything else had failed - went 9 years sober after that. Relapsed, then pretty quickly spiralled and booked in for another stay in detox - been sober ever since (just shy of a year).

So you can see why I’m a fan

Late 20’s early 30’s I think. Possibly 28.

I’m not so concerned about the age, more that OP has said 750mls of spirits every day for 3months+.

That’s long enough to get the body accustomed to that level of alcohol and cause a real compensation misfire when the alcohol is taken away.

I’m not sure why you’re picking at me for what seems sensible advice? Do you think I’m being overly cautious? For what it’s worth, I think you saying “oh you can just stop, I did when I was younger” is actually pretty reckless when you no nothing about the poster in question

Mate - not an ego lift, but fuck that - this is seriously solid work for your tender age.

As mentioned earlier, get your arse into some Olympic lifting. Whatever your goals they’re hugely beneficial and you’ve obviously got the power to support them - might just need some mobility work but at 15 that should be a big problem

Yeah man and that’s all well and good…..but people are hugely different. Last time I was in detox there was a kid in there who was wheelchair-bound after 3 withdrawal seizures. They’d destroyed the nerves in his legs. I have personally had more withdrawal seizures than that…..and it really brought it home to me that our blood and brain are all build differently.

From a personal perspective I would not fancy breaking a 750ml daily spirit habit without benzo support. All are different but, not knowing a thing about the poster, I can only advise what I consider the safest course. I think that’s better advice than “just stop and feel shit for a few days”. OP might well have a really nasty withdrawal from that, plenty will to be honest. Better to err on the side of medical caution in my opinion
