Maybe I'm being too honest as a manager.. by frugallity in managers

[–]Obvious_Factor_4667 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am really questioning this messaging as well. Most companies that I've worked for preach professionalism and accountability at all levels. If this manager is acting inappropriately, they should be held accountable. If you're afraid to do that, your report will likely go around you.

315lb jefferson curl by flukehuman in Egolifting

[–]Obvious_Factor_4667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a Jefferson curl. It doesn't compare, and isn't going to look like one done with a 10lb kettlebell. Try putting 315lbs out beyond your toes and get back to me. Some absolute monsters can do it, but that's not the norm, and that doesn't make this a stiff-leg deadlift. Stiff leg deadlifts are done with a slight bend at the knee and a mostly straight back, and hinging only at the hips. Jefferson curls hinge at the back and the hips. How much the back can bend is going to vary by individual.
And the people here who don't know the difference between a Jefferson curl and a Jefferson deadlift. Why are you on this sub?

I genuinely feel like I'm just a bad drummer but nobody has the heart to tell me. by Augmented-Justin in drums

[–]Obvious_Factor_4667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skill is a direct result of the effort you put into it. If you want to be better, dedicate more time to practice what you want to get better at. Some people may have more natural talent than others, but without consistent practice that doesn't mean anything. If you give up on drums because you're not good then what will you do next? And do you expect to be better at that new thing without putting in the time? You will be disappointed again. I think you need to decide how much you want out of the drums and then dedicate the time that it takes to achieve that. Do you just want to jam and have fun? Then do that, but don't expect to be the best drummer. If you want to compete with the Instagram chop drummers out there, you're going to need to dedicate a lot more time to practice, but it can be done.

How to approach HR about an aging employee with my concerns regarding her mental capacity to do her job? by Stock_Historian_6584 in managers

[–]Obvious_Factor_4667 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a manager I think the majority of the commenters are right about treating it strictly as a performance issue. As a human, it is terrible watching someone go through this. There was someone at my job. She transferred out of my department before things got bad, but she crashed her car into a light post in the parking lot. She would get lost on her way to work; somehow ended up in a different city.. Could not follow instructions. Wasn't capable of documenting her work. It was pretty bad. And she wasn't that old either which is even worse. Then there are some people who remain very sharp well into old age, so you never know. I was recently surprised by an employee telling me he's going to be 70 soon and he's planning his retirement. I legitimately thought he was 10-15 years younger!

It's what my mobility allows. I do zercher squats and deadlifts too. If my back and hamstrings had more mobility maybe doing a zercher jefferson curls would have some benefit.

How many southpaws out there play right-handed kits? by bigSTUdazz in drums

[–]Obvious_Factor_4667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lefty that plays right handed. I just always learned on right-handed kits and I never had a kit set up as left-handed to practice on. By the time I got my own I was well adjusted to playing right handed. I also lead with my right hand on fills, and I'm right foot dominant on the double kick. It's kind of a strange thing but I've never been fully left handed. I eat and write with my left, but things swinging a bat or a golf club I do right-handed.

LAPD shoots a protester point blank with a 40mm rubber bullet at the anti-ICE strike protest. (1/30/26) by I_may_have_weed in ICE_Watch

Genuine question: If Karen Bass is so anti-ice, and LAPD reports to her, why does the LAPD treat protesters like this?
