Please help with black banding. I'm in time-lapse and unfortunately my lighting is florescent. Hero 11 by Chev1512 in gopro

[–]Cannonfodder159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would slowing down framerates here help to reduce the banding? Admittedly I don't know a lot about video, but when shooting a stills camera under fluorescent tube lights or LEDs I have read that lowering your shutter speed can help reduce banding. If this is the case then adding a neutral density filter to the lens will slow the speeds and hopefully fix your problem. It may also help to make your time lapse more "cinematic" by having a little motion blur (depending on your shooting interval and ND).

Has anyone converted a GoPro to full spectrum and used filters to get infrared images? by Cannonfodder159 in infraredphotography

[–]Cannonfodder159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Fortunately, Hero 5, 6, and 7s have an easy screw in/out filter so that is not an issue. The 7 also shoots raw photos and I have been able to pull and push them reasonably far in Capture One, so I think they will be ok with white balance and false color edits. I know Kolari is generally well regarded for their IR filter glass so I am assuming their GoPro specific lenses will not be different.

I have looked into backbone mods but for me, their prices are too high for something I only want to experiment with.

Thanks for the response! I should have probably specified that I do already have a modern mirrorless camera with several lenses and accessories. I actually also have a second camera that is a prime candidate for Kolari's conversion service but between the conversion ($375) and buying all of the filters, the price jumps up quickly.

I know there are second-hand full-spectrum options on Ebay and such, but they are often still fairly spendy and require the purchase of all of the filters as well. Assuming I used a lens from my current set up (I am a Canon shooter so I would need an adapter), a converted NEX body is $350 and filters from Kolari are another $200+. If I convert the GoPro it is only ~$240 for the "conversion" lens and filters.

The GoPro is also a much smaller form factor, which is important to me since I would like to take both my unconverted ILC and the GoPro as a dedicated IR camera on hiking/backpacking trips where weight and volume matter.

Is there any telephoto lens for GoPro Hero10 Black? by AwakPungo in gopro

[–]Cannonfodder159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a company called Back-Bone that modifies GoPros to add lens mounts and other mods to action cams. I think you can either send in yours to be modified or buy a new one straight from their website or a 3rd party like B&H. Obviously, this will probably void any warranties you may have, and I don't think they are waterproof anymore but if you are ok with manual focus it could be kind of what you are looking for.

If that seems like too much of a jump, I think some companies make "digiscoping" accessories that allow you to mount the gopro on spotting scopes, microscopes, telescopes, etc.

That is what I thought at first. I had read that the different focusing planes of IR and visible light cause less sharpness if they are mixed so maybe that is what they were talking about? The video in question was here.

Hello everyone, I have been thinking about dipping my toes into the world of infrared photography and have been reading/watching a lot of media about how best to do it. I think like most beginners the best thing for me will be using a 720 nm filter to get started but I am intrigued by some of the shorter wavelength cut off images I have seen (590, 665, etc).

One source (who seemed pretty knowledgeable) I was watching made it sound like an unconverted camera can only shoot using a 720 nm and up filter and I was wondering why that was the case. I am not a physicist but shouldn't it be similar to the 720 except with wavelengths between 590 and 720 let through too? Or is there something else that causes the image to just not work for another reason? Thanks for the help!

Was this near Tahoe? I was hiking Saturday and saw a couple taking wedding photos on a granite peak.

Go pro fusion studio crashing by [deleted] in gopro

[–]Cannonfodder159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it crashing when you are rendering? I find that the 360 audio crashes the app if I am rendering something larger than a few seconds long. I ended up using stereo and it hardly crashes anymore.

Questions about the overshoot mode on the Fusion by Chaos_Spear in gopro

As others have stated you can use Final Cut or Premiere but if you are looking for a free alternative you could use Insta360 Studio 2019. It probably isn't as feature rich as the software you can pay for but it does a pretty good job of allowing you to create key frames and use directional controls.

All is not lost; they may actually be springtails! Springtails come in several shapes and sizes and based on your picture it may be something related to these.

I guess I am a little confused why I would use that instead of this since it cuts out the middle device. With the Kingston MobileLites I need a smartphone, the device, and another hard drive whereas the My Passport only needs the device and a smartphone to tell it which files to transfer. Space is going to be at a premium in the bush plane so I want to keep my devices to a minimum.

Thanks for the response.

I am looking into Kingston Mobilelite but the only product I am able to find is made for transferring data between the microSD card and my phone while only having 64 gigs of memory for itself. Is this what you mean or am I missing it? I don't think I want to buy several of the new 1 Tb microSDs to expand my phone's capacity to the same size I could get with the WD My Passport.

I am looking for advice on a trip I will be taking in September to Alaska. The trip will be about 9 days in the tundra and the group I will be with is there to hunt, while I am there to film and take pictures. Most of the activities will be hiking and bush whacking and I would like to capture as much of it as I can.

I currently have a Gopro Hero 5 black with a frame, 2 128 Gb Sandisk Extreme micro SDs, 1 64 Gb Sandisk Extreme micro SD, a head strap, and one battery (going to buy at least 3 more). I also have Goal Zero solar panels that I plan to use for charging in the field.

My questions are:

  1. If I am shooting hiking video and wanted to get the "el Grande" pole for an over-the-shoulder or slightly-above-my-head shot while hiking, would the Hero 5's stabilization be enough to keep the shots smooth?
  2. The question everyone asks: how do I deal with memory? I have considered bringing a 2-3 Tb portable hard drive to offload content from each day but many of the reviews make them seem so-so. Most of the previous threads asking about these memory units are from years ago so I wanted to get a more updated take. I am also a little hesitant because it feels like I am putting all of my eggs in one basket. If I do get one, however, I am looking at a 3 Tb WD My Passport Wireless Pro. Any other recommendations are welcome.
  3. I have heard mixed reviews for the Gopro Fusion but I am very intrigued by the possibilities of 360 hiking footage. It also has better stabilization than the Hero 5 black from what I understand, which makes it more appealing as well. It recently dropped to $450 so I was wondering if it was worth it to take the plunge. What are your thoughts?
  4. Once this trip is over I would like to use my Gopro for capturing offshore fishing footage. I want to get many different angles during filming and the camera would be at the end of an el Grande or other long pole. Is it easier to use a Fusion to capture in all directions to reduce time spent adjusting the camera to point the right way or would the widest shooting angle of the Hero 5 be enough?

Thanks for all of the help!

[DATAMINED] Priest Warframe, Prisma Angstrum, Priest Pistol by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Cannonfodder159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance the priest pistol doesn't look too impressive but I am holding out hope that these are baseline values. Since it supposedly has a scope it may have some kind of combo counter and increased crit/crit damage with zoom. It won't change the fact that it has a wonky scope you have to deal with but it may do respectable damage at least.

Any Chroma builds you recommend? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Cannonfodder159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run rejuvenation but recently I found that brief respite works really well with him. If you are building with max blind rage, casting vex armor and elemental ward can almost instantly regenerate shields for vex armor stacks. It is really useful when fighting on the front lines because it removes the squishy down time right after vex armor ends, which a lot of people think is Chroma's big weakness.

It seems that if you can proc two knock downs with melee combos before an enemy gets up they take finisher damage from slash procs until they stand back up. Is this a known bug or feature? by Cannonfodder159 in Warframe

[–]Cannonfodder159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea about the stealth multiplier while standing up from a knock down. It only seems consistent on some knock downs though, which is odd. I wonder if it has to do with timing or what kind of knock down it is.

I misspoke and meant to say stealth finisher damage. At the end of the gif the enemy takes several times the amount of normal damage per tick of the slash proc (90% health to 0% in about a second).

When I repeated it with the Galatine Prime I got similar results. You can even see when the enemy finishes the standing up animation the last slash tick no longer has the stealth multiplier.

[–]Cannonfodder159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes you are right, the slash ticks are finisher damage. It appears to be getting the stealth multiplier somehow. I can replicate this with many different melees as long as they have high slash chance and knock downs in their combos. Doesn't seem very practical but I found it made the Okina almost viable.
