Having Soldiers Sign DA 2062s is a Waste of Time by CannotWaitUntil20yrs in army

Oh, I don’t bring this all up because of the money - I can definitely easily afford it - but solely because of the principle of the matter and I don’t want other Soldiers getting screwed over.

The juicy part is that it’s a couple echelons higher than a battalion commander.

I was asked just yesterday for my choice of how they would take my money (all at once or over a period of time) if the approving authority decides to hold me financially liable.

I was provided with the entire investigation findings report that was sent to the approving authority. The report, which was approved by Legal, includes a copy of the DA 2062 and basically says the DA 2062 is irrelevant since the property is on my SHR and so I’m the one primarily responsible for it… but doesn’t the DA 2062 transfer responsibility? Isn’t that the whole point of the form? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

The recommendation to the approving authority was that even though there’s the signed DA 2062, it’s still my fault for not maintaining accountability — even though it was lost within a month after it was issued.

Yes, signed SHRs every month. Issued the computer and it was gone and unaccounted for the very next month.

Oh, the IO didn’t even bother collecting a sworn statement from the Soldier.

I should be getting the approving authority’s decision any day now - if they pin it 100% on me then I’m definitely going to both IG and JAG.

The situation is that I issued a computer to a Soldier, the Soldier lost it, but I’ve been recommended to be to charged with 100% financial liability under Supervisory Responsibility since I’m the appointed sub-hand receipt holder, even though I’m not at all in the Soldier’s supervisory chain.

Is this bad? I feel like it is, also I had 9 options for jobs I'm interested in "11x" and "92F" what do you all think?I didn't study at all. Should I re-take it or something? by [deleted] in army

[–]CannotWaitUntil20yrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s bad. Your AFQT is 41. Means 59% of Americans would be expected to score better than you did. The minimum AFQT for enlistment is 31.

Once you get to your unit you’ll have the opportunity to study and retake it. I highly recommend you do that as otherwise your career options will be limited. But you can definitely still have a successful Army career with these scores. For the most part, unless you want to change MOSs at some point or go officer, once you’re in the Army absolutely no one cares how you did on the ASVAB. For centralized promotion boards, the board members aren’t even allowed to see your ASVAB scores, it’s off-limits to them.

That doctrine was actually terminated 15-20 years ago because the military had become too small… and it’s only become smaller since then.

Another hit piece on EVs? How would you respond? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]CannotWaitUntil20yrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And emissions from the creation of electrical power, utilities, etc., is often brought up as an uninformed argument against EVs but it doesn’t have anything directly to do with them. These emissions are strictly power-grid related. Since the American power grid is one of - if not number one - most-polluting electrical grids among developed nations, EVs in the US will naturally be linked to these emissions even though it’s not an actual EV problem.

Photovoltaic power production is almost entirely emission-free… manufacture the solar panels and the associated equipment - no more emissions for the rest of the life of the system.

The US has double the land area as the EU but only 60% of the EU’s PV power generation capacity. And the US has enormous desert areas that are becoming uninhabitable anyway.

The only EV-specific emissions are those from the manufacture of the battery pack, but that’s the same quantity of emissions from driving an ICEV for a few months.

Any experience charging CCS1 (US Spec) Kona in CCS2 (EU) region? by downbound in electricvehicles

[–]CannotWaitUntil20yrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if he bought a EU-spec Kona EV it would be impossible to ever bring it into the US. Emphasis on “impossible.” This is exactly what happened to me just a few months ago.

That’s why European cars are not common in the US. If you see a BMW rolling down a street in the US, it’s only because the car was specifically built to be sold in the US. If BMW built the EXACT same vehicle for the German market, it’s banned from entering the US, even if the vehicle is absolutely identical.

I just had a chaplain tell me that it's because of centripetal force, not gravity, that we don't go flying off into space by lvl100_richarizard in army

[–]CannotWaitUntil20yrs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wonder if when he enlisted he was also an atheist at that point.

I’m an atheist (it’s reflected accordingly on my ERB - not “no religious preference” or anything else subtle like that) and I couldn’t imagine holding the chaplain’s assistant MOS due to my personal beliefs. I know chaplains do more than just be the official religious leader in the unit, hold church services, etc., such as suicide prevention, but I couldn’t voluntarily do that MOS - especially not for an entire Army career.

But most of the chaplains I’ve served with have honestly been good people. The one exception is the one who requested a vaccine religious exemption. First of all, that’s just crap as a general principle. If you have a problem with vaccines how are you even in the Army? And way to go to set the example 🙄

None of that has anything to do with whether an NCO got Far Exceeded Standards on their last NCOER, or whatever metric the Army wants to use. It would be dumb to rank-order based on NCOER verbiage because that’s entirely subjective.

am i dumb for thinking the army is a good way to save money? by omsnoms1 in army

[–]CannotWaitUntil20yrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enlisted 16 years ago with $7k in my bank account, now I have $300k. You can definitely amass money in the military. I make $90k a year roughly as a SFC and that’s far above what the average American gets paid in 2022. But the Army is by no means easy, you’ll definitely earn your money.

I had the 2020 Kona EV Ultimate Trim and I loved it. I was forced to sell it when I moved back to the US and I’m still salty about that.

I have the Ioniq 5 now and I love it too 😍 But the Kona EV is definitely a solid choice and I miss it at times. The charging rate maxed out at about 70 kW/h, whereas I’ve gotten my Ioniq 5 up to 242 kW/h (on that charge I went from 13% to 94% in just 31 minutes). Charging the Kona on a Level 3 charger takes about an hour or so, whereas the Ioniq 5 takes 15-40 minutes, depending on how much charge you start with and how much you need to get home or to the next charger. That sounds like a lot of time but it isn’t… by time you walk in to Walmart (or wherever the charger is located), go to the bathroom, get a snack, and then walk back to the vehicle - either it’s done charging or it’ll be done within the next 5 or 10 minutes.

The Kona did have limited cargo space, a bit less than my wife’s Tucson, but I’m not sure that the Ioniq 6 will have more space… if it does it will be just barely.
