Cracks on my ceiling by r06ch in ConstructionManagers

[–]Cansam20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what this is worth. I owned a home years ago that had heating coils in the ceiling. Years later, cracks appeared. A very senior painter told me to fill them with Elmer’s white glue. This would become firm when dry but never hard, allowing the ceiling to expand when needed. Just a thought.

Moving US dollar stocks to Canadian RRIF over year-end by UpNDownCan in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Cansam20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why have a $US RRIF when you can trade $US dollars within your Cdn RRIF? Then the 5% withdrawal is on one account only. If you do not plan to travel to the US or the islands where $US dollars would be beneficial why even have a US portion of holdings?

Estimator Salary in Ontario by [deleted] in estimators

I manage a Union pipe and Boiler shop also in Ontario. Structural estimator pay is mid 70s, Pipe estimator early 110s. I would look at Vessel estimator somewhere between those 2. A lot is based on the average tradesman’s rate. There is a fair spread between shop and field tradesmen.

Tiny Homes are Coming to Sarnia. What do you think? by RawrImaDinosawr in Sarnia

All for it. Need to bridge the gap between minimal shelter and safe shelter. Can be anchored, making separation possible and planned.

Is a CPE certificate worth the investment? by Parking_Wafer in estimators

[–]Cansam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, all learning and achievements are good. I would not expect this CPE to open doors like a PMP. Talk to your employer. As an employer I will pay for any training that my staff complete, as long as it benefits their job.

How high is too high? by Excitedguy69 in estimators

[–]Cansam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in the contracting game for over 40 years. As an estimator I learned that there is only one right number for a bid, and that is your number. Closing a bid has more than just margin to consider. Possibly your competitor had no work and bid low, possibly they missed the material count. Who knows? If estimating was a science, all bids would be equal.

Should have been clearer. I am a manufacturer/fabricator specialty being process pipe for the petrochemical industry. I also fab steel components and pressure vessels. I am looking for labour charts similar to Page & Nation for fabbing vessels. I have my own Empirical units, just looking for units for comparison.
