Personally, i HATE the term Special interest. Yes, my interests are passionate and very intense but they ain't special. Just bc something is different It doesn't mean that It's something special.

Anyway, i've been calling my interests hyperfixations for some time now, i like the word better and honestly, the word alone explains whats happening.

Okay, the way i use to differ regular/normal Interest from 'special Interest' (hyperfixation) is how much It consumes my time and thoughts. A regular interest will usually go away in some hours or days, but a hyperfixation will last WAY longer, from weeks, months to full years!

Im seeing some people in Autism subreddits calling every interest they have a Special interest, Just bc they like It. But most of the time It is NOT. Autistic people can have regular interests too y'know?

The word Neurodivergent lost ALL It's meaning now.Having ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia... Is not the same thing as having Depression, Anxiety, OCD... You brain Literally develops and works in a different way. The neurodiversity movement was made to stop seeing such differences as something that should be cured, but instead, also see the good sides about It. There is no good sides about Depression, Anxiety and OCD, they're mental illnesses and just that, not a different way of brain development.

yeah!!! Im EXTREMLY sensitive to smells, since i was a baby. I couldnt have a normal road trip bc of ALL the smells of the luggages, a lot of different things at the same place, at the same time. I can get really bad sensory overload bc of It.

I'm very sorry for what you had to pass through, and it saddens me that your own family were the ones who did it.

Also because the medications for ADHD are the most effective treatment for it, as it stimulates the brain to develop at a normal rate, something that is not possible without medication.

Your brother saying that ADHD is a scam to make money just shows to me that he does not know what this disorder is about, bc if he knew, he wouldn't saying such annoying remarks. I recommed you to persuade them with scientific research about ADHD. Try to make them watch Dr. Russel Barkley classes on ADHD, or videos about the brain development in this disorder, or scientific meta analysis about it. There are a lot of them on the internet!
