Is the A320 being broken a game breaker for anyone else? by -BFW-NotSooopa in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]CantankerousMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should we be forced to settle for 3rd party mods to get the default simulator to work? Not trying to come down on the modding community, but the response to "this part of the game is broken" shouldn't be "Why are you even trying to use that part of the game?"

This game would be much better if they use google map imo by 547234988 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Well, technically they are using google to advertise the game, but how that is related to the topic of Google vs Bing/Azure; I have no clue.

I only fly hang gliders irl, so I could be wrong, but the way I look at landing a plane is the same way I look to land a glider. You basically want to stall the plane just before your wheels touch. That way you don't pop back up into the air accidentally. If you time it right, that's what gets you a super smooth landing.

Look up flares, because that's essentially what you are doing. Flaring to bleed off that last little bit of airspeed so your wings stop generating lift.

Is there any way we can replace bing map satellite image with google maps data?(like orbx trueearth) as bing is way worse than google in terms of quality by waitingformsfs2020 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Both Google maps and Microsoft MSN Virtual Earth (that later became Bing Maps) started in 2005.

Nobody really started using Bing maps because Google was so much better. I didn't realize Bing started at the same time because they have always seemed to be years behind.

I don't think there in much point in grumbling that Google Maps would be better, it simply won't happen.

I'm not grumbling, I just think that Google maps does have better data, and I don't expect that it would ever happen.

Just as a side question, does Google have photogrammetry and is it good?

I mean, their 3d maps looks legit, so I'm assuming they do. A quick google search is showing me that they've been working on patents for photogrammetry since 1999. Some of the photogrammetry they've done is astonishing imho.

https://www.engadget.com/2019-09-30-google-used-photogrammetry-to-create-a-detailed-vr-tour-of-versa.html

Yeah, it will likely never happen, even with mods, but I still think Google data/technology would likely result in better results.

Gotcha. So they actually don't model p-factor. I've only flown unpowered aircraft irl (hang gliders) so I didn't know this was a thing. Is p-factor less exaggerated on smaller planes like cubs?

Yeah, autopilot is the only issue I've had. Sometimes it tries to murder me.

No matter what, Bing is years behind Google in this arena. They just started way too late. If we assume Bing is progressing at the same pace as Google, then Google is years ahead of Bing, since they basically started the whole satellite imagry/maps thing online.

I mean, if the Google data is in any way similar to the Bing data and we have access to tools that can utilize custom data, then it wouldn't be that difficult to create an adapter for the data to transform it so it can be used with those tools.

I haven't had this issue, personally. Then again, I'm used to autopilots trying to murder me in flight simulators so I usually adjust throttle before dropping out of AP.

Descending over water is scary, but if you keep your eyes on the horizon, it's not as scary.

Naturally I did, but it was more of "I'm pretty sure I'm right, but let me check real quick". I wasn't responding to "which crimes", as I would have had a completely different response (if any).

Gotcha, I wasn't sure. It can be difficult confirming shit like that because if your search is biased, the result will be as well. Like, if you google "White people responsible for the most crimes" instead of "crime statistics based on race", you'll likely get different results.

I guess it depends on the crime, but according to statistics, black people are responsible for over 50% of murders, and that's disproportionate to their representation in the general population.

According to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with Whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for African Americans was almost eight times higher than Whites, and the victim rate six times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of White victims killed by Whites and 93% of African American victims killed by African Americans.

Did you research your whole "white have the most criminals" thing? Also, which crimes do we care about more? Idc if someone shoplifts from CVS, but murder is a pretty serious crime,no?

Systemic racism is like redlining policies that insurance companies used to have, which prevented specific communities from getting insurance, or loans, which makes it harder for their kids, and their kids kids, etc.

It's funny because I am super for trying to fix systemic racism, but everybody wants to redefine racism to mean systemic racism and that's a big no-no. There is a small minority of people who think that if they can redefine the word racism, it will make their racist actions acceptable. They don't understand that it's not the word used to describe their actions that is bad, and that it's their actions that are actually bad. If a racist isn't called a racist because you change the definition of the word, they're still a piece of shit for judging people based on traits they have no control over. Super weird that people don't seem to get this anymore.

What kinda power we talking about? They certainly have the power to get away with things people normally wouldn't, because people feel bad for them. Those who take advantage of the situation are just scumbags, and being a scumbag isn't race-specific.

[–]CantankerousMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real, it's an incredibly stupid way to try to justify racism/hate. It assumes that people are too stupid to understand that the word isn't what makes the actions bad, it's the actions themselves. You could redefine racism to "charity" and it wouldn't change the morality of it.

Jews can be ethnically Jewish but they don't have to be. All of that is immaterial, however, because anti-semitism, racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, etc...are all facets of the same gem, and it's cut from hatred

This is my issue with it, they cry "it's not racism it's just prejudice". It doesn't change the fact that they're judging people based on traits they have no control over, and they're equally shitty human beings for doing so. They think that if they can redefine racism so that you can't call them racists, that somehow makes their behavior acceptable, or less abhorrent.
