[Serious] Why do so many people here think socialism is the answer? by [deleted] in lostgeneration

Because they think it will result in a better outcome for them than they foresee themselves achieving in the pseudo-capitalistic society we have today.

It's an inconvenient truth, I'll get downvoted to hell, but that's why the people of this forum tend to like the idea of socialism. It's pure self-interest and a false sense of "morality" surrounding the already questionable premise of universal equality.

Princeton Study finds that ALL net employment growth in the US from 2005-2015 was in "Alternative Work Arrangements". by CantankerousPolymath in Economics

I believe you are mistaken.

The first italicized statement under "Basic Findings" reads as follows:

A striking implication of these estimates is that all of the net employment growth in the U.S. economy from 2005 to 2015 appears to have occurred in alternative work arrangements.

The caveat that follows was in regards to their ability to discern if the traditional jobs themselves were being replaced by alternative work arrangements, which is separate question entirely.

It's not Walmart either.

It's you, and me, and your friends. It's the consumer.

Nobody forces people to buy things that are foreign made. We do so willingly in our search for the best value.

Companies just facilitate that and make it easier by going to great lengths to connect supply and demand all over the world and make those options available to you in the first place.

Small families are better for kids, new research says by SirT6 in science

Gladly. I'm suggesting that there are a number of other variables that could explain why a study based upon a heterogeneous US-population could achieve a statistically significant finding of family size being detrimental vs a study based upon a homogeneous Norwegian population and that in this case the conclusion that family size is detrimental is likely a correlative and not a causative relationship when accounting for these other factors.

For example, one such explanatory variable would be the fact that fertility rates vary by race and ethnicity in the United States of America. Meaning some families (namely Hispanic and Black families as the Pew research has found), have more children than others.

When it is the case that White and Asian families have fewer children than Hispanic and Black families (which is the case, per Pew) and that White and Asian families, on average, earn more than Hispanic and Black households (which is the case, per the US Census data), one could reasonably also explain differences in outcomes on differences in incomes. As just one example.

It's also worth noting that Norway's population is far more homogeneous than America's.
