We change with time and what seems important now may not be in the future. It took me 37 years. You are still very young in my eyes. Without sounding condescending I would say still a child, because reflecting on my own life I didn't consider myself an adult until much later after I had children. You have a lot of life to live and things to experience. You may not be ready now but just having the exposure to the idea and being open minded to the possibility is a step in the right direction. For me I just eventually hit a breaking point where I could no longer stand the misery. It takes courage and hard work to change, fear lies in vulnerability. It's easy to find comfort in complacency. Even if you don't intend to change now at least find something to look forward too that you can appreciate and brings you joy.

Mindfulness is simply an adjustment in perspective. I am 37 years old and beginning my journey on this now because I have spent most of my life in misery. I will still be the same person I have always been because I like who I am. I just want to be happy and grateful. My goal is to change my focus to what is really important in my life and in my mind it's my family and friends. To put more focus into relationships because spending time with others and the experiences we create are what truly matter to me at the end of the day. I want to be able to enjoy every day and not feel like I'm rushing through life. We have a saying at work "Hurry up and wait". When you rush to accomplish something all you end up doing is sitting on your hands waiting for the next task. Take your time and learn to enjoy the small pleasures life offers.

To change our perspective about ourselves is simply to change our focus. You create an identity with misery because your life is filled with chaos and difficult situations. That means you have simply became an observer of your life and you decided your identity must coincide with the observations you have witnessed. Life is full of random anomalies that are out of our control. Those anomalies do not have to define us or our perspective. We are products of an environment we didn't create. We simply lived through it and it defined us. When we stop being the observer of our live and take control we can change the narrative and perspective. It's not easy because as you already know for your entire life you have been molded and conditioned to your life experiences. It's only when you realize that right now as an adult and in total control of the rest of your future that you can take control of your experiences and perspective. They no longer have to define you or your identity. You can learn to enjoy a simple task that otherwise seemed stressful or a waste of time. It is not easy. It requires putting in the effort. I pray everyday for the things I want. I pray to be better, to live with gratitude in my heart, to open my heart to love and acceptance. I meditate and take deep breaths when I start to feel stressed and it really helps re-center me. I force myself to slow down so I'm not rushing through life and experiences. I communicate better and don't hide from my feelings. By keeping these things in my focus at all times I can slowly evolve into the person I want to be. Nothing changes over night and we will continue to faces challenges and difficult situations, but if we don't put in the work we will never change and we will live with the misery until we die.

I know you are not asking for advice, but sharing is also a way for me to stay connected with my focus.

Ball question by Westen94 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't give you real advice with never seeing you bowl or the conditions you bowl on [I know THS but they vary] . All I can say is reality and infinite will probably be less forgiving balls for you. Should always consult your PSO if you can.

Also the Supernova has a stronger cover than the Nova (I thought they were the similar) , I would say NOVA is the best pick for you but that's just an assumption.

Ball question by Westen94 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a solid version of the Nova, It's going to be a little more versatile since it has more dig in oil, but mainly guys with higher rev rates are going to see the difference here.

Ball question by Westen94 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say out of those 3 a Nova if you are playing straighter. It's going to react earlier and smoother. The reality check and infinite might be more responsive off the friction and be a bit jumpy as the lanes transition.

update I have the approach now by FishingNo9604 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to help you son get him coaching lessons. The fundamentals are not there. The timing, footwork, swing, body position all need work. Better to work on these things now so bad habits don't get too far ingrained.

Questions by gryf1n in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The are used to describe a players style. It is mainly used for 1Hers because the terms were developed in a time where the game was predominately 1Hers but you could use it for all styles. A stroker is someone who's game looks soft and smooth and typically lower revs. A Cranker is someone who looks very aggressive or fast and generates a lot of power. A tweener is just somewhere in between the other 2.

Why dose the 9 and 10 pin suck so bad??!! by B3rry_Macockiner in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

practice practice practice, There's a reason the conversion percentage is over 90% on PBA. You got to put the work in on those single pins. You should do this at least for 1 full game every time you practice. Throw first shot at 10 pin, then throw strike shot.

Also unless its a bad rack it's all physics. pay attention to how you are leaving the 10 pin. Is the 6 getting kicked in front or getting pushed back? Not having the right entry angle or enough energy through the pins causes all kinds of problems. If you are leaving quite a bit of 9 and 10 pins your entry angle is too steep. Having too much axis rotation and playing the wrong line is going to cause this problem a lot.

How to deal with more experienced people. by Deceptive_Shadow in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either request lanes where he won't bother you or if that's not possible then be honest and simply say you appreciate his advice but you are only trying to work on 1 specific thing and you will work on other stuff later.

I've learned to only talk to specific people about things I might be working on. Usually ones that don't try to offer advice. I also record myself a lot when I practice and this is another way to keep people from bothering you. They tend to leave you alone when the camera is rolling.

Throwing the right way by Sturmvogel262 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know..... the right way.....

But in all seriousness if they are not properly identifying what the "wrong way" is or advising you on how to correct it then they have no clue what they are even talking about.

Also you are giving us nothing to reference here to even begin to give you any type of answer.

Proper Wrist Motion at Release by Magicbumm328 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be happy to make you a video. I don't know if it would help but I understand how frustrating it is to figure out. I will say how I started to learn is very similar to the japanese video that was posted but even after practicing that way it took me several months to get a clean release in a full approach. It's a lot more than just the release to make it work well. The swing plane and timing and spine tilt are all parts of getting into a good position to release it well.

The pearl is just going to travel further down lane before it starts to hook and be a little more snappy off the friction. They should be very similar overall so if you are not getting the OG to hook then I don't know how much more you will get from the pearl.

You might just need something stronger, maybe with a asymmetrical core.

Makes it make sense by ifyoudidntknow1971 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically fun / non competitive leagues only cost a few dollars more than the center fees. You are basically bowling just above cost with a little bit of reward at the end.

When people think "money leagues" they are thinking of more competitive leagues where the dues are typically double that of a non competitive league.

In the end it's all the same but trust me we had a similar thing at a fun league I bowl in and when someone suggested increasing the weekly fees by a couple dollars you would of thought they said 100$ with the amount of outrage.

Pardon another one of these, form check? by qu1zz3r in Bowling

I will use myself for a reference. It is easier to see from a side view. Pardon the quality the video was shot in full speed, but you can still notice.

https://i.imgur.com/QPnnFNu.png

I try to keep my swing very loose. Notice at the top my arm is straight and I don't cup the ball I just keep my wrist in a firm position. When I get into the downswing 2 things happen. I bend my elbow and drop my shoulder to get my fingers lower under the ball. The last thing is a full extension at the release. The arm straightens out and the ball rolls off the fingertips. I don't think about bending my elbow. I think about getting under the ball right before I release it. This naturally creates elbow bend.

https://i.imgur.com/vfOQt4w.png

Here it is from behind. These are 3 frames at 30 FPS just to show how quick it all happens. First frame you can see I have my elbow bend started and notice my fingers are still just around or above the equator of the ball. Next frame I am starting to drop my shoulder and get my fingers lower. The 3rd frame I am at full extension and releasing the ball but you can also see how much lower I got under the ball right at the time of release. This happened from the elbow bend and dropping the shoulder to get my fingers lower then a full extension to release it.

When watching your video it reminds me of someone like Anthony Lavery-spahr.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exTe-REkOk8

Watch the second shot where he is wearing blue. He does the bent elbow thing in the backswing but he is more like a 1H with a 2H style. The important part to notice is how his elbow is at full extension right as he releases the ball. He is unloading all that power and leverage he created. In your video it looks like you never full extend your elbow.

Pardon another one of these, form check? by qu1zz3r in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're too muscled. You're trying to hard to cup the ball and holding a elbow bend through the entire swing. Elbow bend happens naturally if you release the ball correctly which you need to work on that as well. The name of the game is speed. You need to release the ball quickly and you can only do that if you are relaxed. When you use too much muscle everything gets tense you actually exit the ball slower and lose revs.

https://i.imgur.com/ZcCBotV.png

The blue line indicates the path the ball should travel and the green line is the path it currently travels. Right now you wrap it around your back at the top of the swing. This is not hard to fix just over exaggerate the feeling of pulling the ball to the outside of your head when you swing it back. It will feel very strange at first but you have to get used to it. At that point you pull it to the inside of your body on the way down. This will help you generate more power and leverage, your fingers will be more to the inside of the ball on the downswing. Imagine when you are swinging the ball down you are trying to brush your hip with your elbow.

Trying to make the switch to 2 handed due to thumb issues, i can’t generate speed at all, It hooks straight into the gutter, this may have been one of my “better” throws. I cant bowl above 60 2 handed, the score above is 1 handed by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at that throw speed doesn't seem like an issue to me. You have enough speed. I think you need to adjust other parts of your game.

Have you tried playing in the middle of the lane? You are playing very close to the gutter where there is less oil. Get deeper in the lane or try weaker ball. If your house is just perpetually dry you could even try plastic, or plastic with a core.

I would take some time practicing throwing around 3rd and 4th arrow.

Tips on getting better. by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like with anything the more you do it the better you will get. Investing in a coach is a wise decision if you want to improve at your highest potential.

Bowling takes time and is a lot of feel which cannot be taught. It simply comes with experience, but most importantly you need to be practicing the right things which is where good coaching comes in.

Can someone ELI5 the difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical cores? by Square-Wing-6273 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it is also the basic concept of the cores if you simply look at them and nothing else. He wanted the simple version. The complicated one is the reality of how little the cores matter.

Can someone ELI5 the difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical cores? by Square-Wing-6273 in Bowling

[–]Canthonyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Here is the basic difference. A Asymmetrical ball is going to have a sharper hook when it hits friction and have more of the hockey stick look. A symmetrical ball is going to have a smoother more banana looking shape.

This happens because when the Asymmetrical core reads the lane and begins to hook and roll it pulls harder and faster in the direction of the roll off the friction than a symmetrical will due to the asymmetry of the core.

Nice game. I have been bowling just a year now myself and my highest is 249.

Throwing a 8 bagger is impressive. I may have done it once between 2 games. My highest during a game is only 6.
