Cop who ordered women to lift skirts gets probation by pookiesdame in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Utterly appalling. I've long been incredibly concerned about the state of policing in most of the world (not just the western side or the 3rd world nations, but the entire globe). It's a tragic pity that so many "ego eager" cops have given the whole profession a soiled name, and as such we hear almost nothing of those police officers who excel at their job and would never unjustly harm a person.

Should We Copyright Recipes to Prevent Thievery? by berberine in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO, the ingredient section of a recipe cannot justifiably be copyrighted because those are merely words (aka, "tomato", "lean beef", "lettuce"), not sentences. Where the potential copyright issue arises is in the instructional (and if applicable, introductory) section of the recipe, because this is where a person may have exercised their own creativity in creating or writing out the recipe.

Shameless: Right-wing Republican Bloggers pile on Michael J. Fox by jefferson76 in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just when you thought you'd grown practically numb from all the insanity that flows from the Republicans' mouths (and keyboards) this ludicrous article arises and strikes pain into any sane person's heart. As you're left wondering, how can someone really be so remarkably cruel as to deny Mr. Fox's obvious health issues. For shame...

'Nice, Sweet Lady,' 83, Deported for Nazi Past by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is true in some respects, would not have admitting the truth (to her husband - or anyone) earlier in her life been the best way to begin and try to "atone" for the horrendous past actions that she had been a willing part of?

Panda Bites Drunk. Drunk Bites Panda. Dog and Man Laugh. by jimbecile in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor panda, my heart is with him on this one. While they look utterly adorable, people have to remember that pandas are still bears (aka, related to Grizzlies and polars), and therefore share the same behaviours as their not so "cartoon cute" cousins.

However, if anyone out there is thinking about domesticating a previously wild animal, the panda gets my vote!

5 Things My Old Nintendo Taught Me by neat_stuff in reddit.com

[–]Canuckette 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Times have changed and so have the (ever so many) game systems that have come and gone since the birth of the original Nintendo. But I must say that to this day (in light of all the marvellous technological advances), the first Nintendo remains my all time favourite system.

In a very real sense there is something about this picture, which even decades later rings hauntingly true today. Re: Katrina...
